So, living just around the corner from this beautiful Inn and not having visited since it was taken over by hew Management, I was quite dubious about booking here for our 'girls' catch up! We only manage to arrange two or maybe three times a year so always go somewhere in Porthcawl, where the majority of us live.
From my initial contact, via email, nothing was too much for the wonderful staff of The Angel. So accommodating and friendly - when we arrived we were greeted by 2 really smiley young ladies and taken to our table. One of our party had to cancel last minute but this wasn't an issue at all. Initially 2 of us were there waiting for 2 more, and our Server, Ruby, was attentive to our needs (which are quite specific when it comes to ordering our drinks - and that's just to start).
So she had great knowledge when we asked about which lager was on draft, especially describing and comparing one type we hadn't heard of before and getting it spot on! Then the Wine List and to say we were faffing about which to order would be an understatement) but Ruby asked us a few specific questions about what type of wine we like and brought us a stunning bottle of red. We were really impressed with the quality, it was delicious and we were surprised to find out it was The House Red!
Our other 2 friends arrived and because we hadn't seen each other for over 6 months we had so much to catch up on and all the staff were brilliant when they came to take our orders and we hadn't even looked at the menu! Giving us more time.
Anyway, the food was delicious, the lamb with minted gravy was the best I've ever tasted and the staff were so great with each of our specific requests (getting a lush Yorkshire pud and stuffing with the lamb and a yorkie with all the dinners even though none were beef). The dessets were amazing and yet again the kitchen catered to all of our individual whims!
A massive thank you to Ruby and all the staff who looked after us - we will be back for our next 'girls' lunch...
Read moreI was reluctant to write this but having drove out of my way to eat here I felt I had to. It was Friday afternoon and my daughter and I came here for lunch. There were two tables in the restaurant so it wasn’t particularly busy. My daughters vegetarian curry was totally inedible , it consisted of curry paste, water aubergine and corgettes, the waitress did check us and ask if I wanted something else as I told her that the curry was inedible , but my daughter had polished off the chips and Nan bread so wasn’t happy with a replacement. The both waitresses behaviour I found hard to comprehend as they were singing loudly behind the bar, singing over the music, turning the volume up if they liked a song skipping songs and basically behaving unprofessional in front of me the paying customer. I paid £50 for an experience I wish not to endure again and wasn’t offered a free drink dessert or any type of compensation for the food I paid for which I wasn’t happy with, which having worked in hospitality for over 10 years would be the norm. Such a shame as this used to be our...
Read moreWent for Sunday lunch for Fathers day, struggled to get a parking space because for some reason the front of Inn has been turned into an outdoor seating area with several wooden picnic tables. Luckily we were able to park on the grass, otherwise if the small car park is full you would have to park on the road. We were seated at the rear restaurant, which due to its size, was very noisy and it was difficult to have a conversation. As such, our order was miss-heard by the server. In the bar there was a sign that mentioned Posh squash which sounded intriguing, however when we tried to order we were told it was not available. The food however, once it had arrived, was delightful, but took quite a long time to get to us. I would recommend for the food, but due to the small parking area, they seem to be aiming either for local patrons in walking distance or cyclist popping in as...
