This has to be one of the most beautiful dining experiences that I've ever had.
Situated next to Kenfig Pool, an area of outstanding natural beauty just off the South Wales coast, this semi-ancient building has an irresistible medieval charm that encapsulates the ideal of what an old-world pub ought to be, and is monumental to the locality. The interior decor and layout is spectacularly fitting.
Apropos the dining, I came here with my family for a meal on a Saturday evening. We had booked the table for 7.30 pm. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the friendly wait staff and ushered to our table. After ordering drinks, we were informed that there would be a wait on the meals due to workload on the kitchen, however, all of our meals arrived at the table in a timely manner, with appropriate time between courses.
Everybody on the table enjoyed their meal. I had the Garlic Mushrooms as a starter, then to follow, I took the Steak and Ale Pie, which pared extremely well with the pint of Gower Gold IPA that I had ordered. In the week that we visited Wales, this was the best meal that I had eaten.
Drinks were served promptly, and the staff were duly attentive- we never had to call anyone over for anything. From start to finish the staff did a superlative job, and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Not very often does a meal out leave me high on atmosphere but knowing that we were going to be travelling back to Germany the next day, our visit to The Prince of Wales made our holiday in Wales that little bit...

Top tip. Book a table because this place gets popular. We hadn't booked in advance, but as we were early they managed to squeeze us into the first sitting
Nice traditional pub atmosphere and a good selection of home-brewed ciders if you're in to that sort of thing
Staff were very friendly and took food orders before they started serving at 5pm
When the food arrived I was impressed at how much there was, and even though the chips looked a little anaemic, they were lovely and hot and tasted great
I went for the small gammon and chips and my wife had the small fish and chips and after the meal our plates were empty and our bellies were full
Bill came to £32 for both meals and 4 drinks which is very reasonable
I read somewhere that it's supposed to be one of the most haunted pubs in Wales, and whilst we were there, we noticed the hand dryer in the gent's toilet kept mysteriously turning on and off
This continued for nearly 10 minutes and I'd just about plucked up enough courage to go and look, when a bloke emerged and told us he'd spilled his pint down his trousers
I ain't 'fraid...
Read moreRunning a "mysterious" themed tour of Southern Wales, this was a must stop for us. NO DISSAPPOINTMENTS, and highly superseding any of our expectations. The hospitality of hard working staff, including proprietor, David Stone and our outstanding server Jewel, were TOPS! They delivered a commitment to our delicious meals being served quickly, warmly and absolutely delicious! Portions are humongous, which was disappointing for me … for I could NOT fit a dessert! Often times historical establishment downplay the stirring history a property holds, and all the "spiritual remnants" that it may have. There is nothing dark here, but it is very well celebrated by those that have crossed its thresholds one way or another. This is a MUST stop for all, and one we will repeatedly include in our itineraries offered in this beautiful land! Prince of Wales, Diolch, for contributing so well to our...
