The Bothy Tea Room were an unexpected but pleasant surprise. Situated at the Colby Woodland Gardens, what set the tearooms apart from typical cafés at National Trust grounds was the array of loose leaf teas on the menu. There were some delightful-sounding herbal brews, of which we only time to try one, in addition to their black tea house blend. All teas and cakes were served in bone china, which made the tea-drinking experience truly decadent. There was a good freshly-baked cake selection too, which perfectly complemented their teas. For a tea and cake-focussed room, they had some surprisingly inventive bread rolls and baguettes, too. Service was polite and helpful, and the staff managed well during the busy time we visited. Located at the Colby Woodland Gardens, the location was perfect for lunch during the middle or at the end of a walk. It does become very busy during the middle of the day, though. There is a little indoor seating, with many more benches outside. We were delighted to have lunch and tea here, and would fully recommend it!

This is a little gem of a place. A family owned cafe within the grounds of a wonderful National Trust woodland with a walled garden as well. I was struck by the huge selection of amazing cakes - much better than NT cafes. We had Victoria sponge and white choc and raspberry - both delicious. The coffee was very good too. Highly recommended.

Stopped here twice, once before our walk for brunch and again for a cake and tea before heading home. Wide selection of cakes. Can recommend the red velvet, which had generous amount of white chocolate on top of the cream cheese frosting. They had a wide selection of treats for your dog including doggie ice cream and "fish and chips" dinner.

This is a real gem of a cafe, the National Trust could do worse than considering running all their cafes like this one! We had the halloumi wrap, the tomato and bruschetta salad and the kids cheese sandwich. There is an fair amount of choice on the menu, with several vegetarian options. The adult meals were thoroughly delicious and make a welcome change from the traditional holiday fare of chips and...chips. My only suggestion would be to use bread that doesn't have crusts for the kids sandwiches. Our daughter is at the age of losing several of her milk teeth and she didn't particularly enjoy her sandwich as she finds chewy bread a bit of a challenge (although it went down well...

If I could give a zero I would.

Horrible experience.

Racist staff in the tea room.

Purchased a to go coffee, was given attitude and stinking looks. Simply asked for more caramel as I watched the old woman not put any in. I was polite, said please and thank you, waited patiently on the side by the door for my coffee.

Call yourselves baristas? Didn’t even know what cold foam was.

You were all fine with my white partner, when he asked for more caramel in his. Ultra accommodating, “oh we’re so sorry blah blah blah”.

Am I shocked in this area? Nope. Family run and racist? Pick a struggle.

Hopefully never going to return to this place :) train your staff better and shame...
