Took my in - laws and partner for a quick lunch mid-week and the food was amazing value and staff were lovely - so good we have booked for mother's Day.
Update: Went on mothering Sunday as planned and ...... oh dear what happened?
The place was packed even at the late serving at 4pm - it was noisy, crammed full of extra tables, and a tad scruffy looking - the standard 3 course Sunday lunch was priced very well but the food was disappointing to say the least - plentyful but just not cooked or presented well - especially the prawn cocktail starters which had a very watery sauce over them and the pate starter only had two small peices of toast with it so not enough for the pate.
The mains roasts, especially the beef and lamb were not very good. I am not sure where they get their meats for Sunday lunch but it was odd in colour and waffer thin, so we assumed it was pre-cooked stuff you get in massive catering packs and just reheated and not cooked on the premises. The veg was again plentyful but overcooked especially the peas and what we think was veg mash which had an odd dark colour to it?? Most of the veg had obviously been cooked in bicarbonate of soda which was not nice and caused all of us to have wind and belly aches.
I think the main problem was that they had taken on too many servings because it was mothering Sunday and they were well over booked. This was the total opposite to what we found the week or so before at lunch time mid-week, which was lovely.
We had our lunch and went to the bar area where they had a wonderful young lady singing specially for mother's Day as we had been told this when we booked and we were really looking forward to this.
We went in the bar having to push past a gang of yobs stood up to the bar, only to find that the singer had been placed near the toilets which was odd as she couldn't be seen from our seats around the corner from her near the kitchen side door and even though she was singing her heart out she was being completely ignored by some very rude individuals who were watching football on the TV with their backs to her!!
These guys were sat in such a way which meant we couldn't sit in the main seating area to enjoy the singer.
I can't for the life of me understand the management's intentions because the focus was mother's Day and the entertainment had been put on specifically for that so they should have turned the bloody TV off and then maybe they would have had more families with their moms in the bar enjoying themselves instead of a handful of loud yobs shouting at the telly and standing around the bar near the door making everyone feel uncomfortable and intimidated.
The lunch cost around £100 for the 4 of us which would have been good if the food had been up to a good standard.
The saving grace was, as always, the excellent staff but even they were completely rushed off their feet and not as approachable as normal.
It was a very disappointing mother's Day for us and we won't be booking again for a Sunday lunch any time soon.
Sorry guys you got it completely...
Read moreVisited last night with 3 friends, not very impressed if I’m honest my friends highly rated the place so we booked it was for 5 pm so not too late in evening, A lot of things weren’t available from the menu, we ordered food and then waitress came back to say sorry we have No coleslaw, she said she’d take them off bill we had already been told No Onion rings and No garlic bread. We waited a while for the food and to be fair the young waitress came over and said “Your food won’t be long” we were chatting so we didn’t mind (not that it was busy) but we still waited another 20 mins easy, when the food came one off the Riverside chicken was wrong but we sorted that out by swapping with the other riverside chicken, we asked for BBQ sauce in separate bowl it wasn’t with the food we had to ask for it, We all had our food and I asked for some tartare sauce so did my friend and she wanted tomato sauce, very young waitress asked did we want more drinks which 3 people did, so she said ok I’ll get your drinks then get your sauces 🤷♀️ We already had our food so wanted sauce ms with our food before it went cold, so odd she went to get drinks. She brought drinks then went for sauces, she brought one tartare sauce and tomato sauce so my friend said she also wanted tartare sauce, and I was little taken aback when they young waitress said “Make your mind up which sauce do you want” she wanted both but the attitude was very unprofessional, really think she needs some training in dealing...
Read moreOrdered a veg burger and chips and it was served on a dirty chopping board! Looked like it hadn't dried properly and was going blue on the edges, with knife marks from previous uses which were probably full of germs! I felt sick!! Didn't complain as I was with people who were celebrating an occasion and I didn't want to make a fuss, so I asked for a plate and left the bottom of the burger that touched the board. Food was nice but the service and cleanliness needs work. I wiped the table over with a detol wipe (covid safety) and it had black on it. Then we were over charged, the veg burger should have been £9.50 and it said £13.95 on the bill and there was also an extra £4 for a cider we didn't order! Told them and they adjusted it, lucky we checked, how many people don't?!
Update 2023: Went here again for same occasion as last year (not my choice). Cleanliness was much better although I asked for a plate instead of a wooden board when I ordered. Lots of care was taken when I ordered a vegan burger to check I was happy with the ingredients so that was good, but once again I was over charged - the menu said £12.50 but I was charged £13.95 again and had to ask for a refund which was fine but a year on they still have not adjusted their till! The burger and chips I found to be very bland tho, tried to smother in vinegar but that was also watery and didn't help. Food hygeine rating is...
