We booked our table 2 days in advance for a Sunday roast at The Dial at 2pm. On arrival we were told they'd run out of beef , very disappointing. Other diners told us they'd run out of beef much earlier. Everyone in the restaurant had booked a table so they should have been prepared. We accepted an alternative & ordered drinks & water. 15 mins later I had to go to the bar & get the drinks myself. 45 mins later our meals arrived......minus the Yorkshire puddings...they'd run out of them too!! As for the meat ..it was ok. As for the vegetables..we couldn't get a fork into the roast potatoes, we had 1 thin sliver of burnt parsnip each, 1 slice of carrot each, a small dish of peas with a few shreds of cabbage, & a small dish of creamed leeks ( more cream than leek!) to share between 3 people! We complained to one of the waitress's who was disinterested to the point of shrugging her shoulders as she walked away. We then asked to speak to the manager, who turned out to be another waitress. We waited for our bill for 15 mins before taking our drinks into the garden. Eventually my husband had to go back inside to pay our bill, & gratefully we received a discount on our drinks, which was something, but we will definitely not recommend The Dial to anyone..there are plenty of other great restaurants in this lovely area, tried & tested to give great service & far better quality Sunday roasts. FYI be very careful if you're coeliac..even if they'd had Yorkshire pudding they would not have been able to provide gluten free for one...

Read moreIt is a nice pub with a nice selection of drinks, a nice looking menu and friendly staff. But...
I ordered a medium rare steak with garlic mushrooms and stilton sauce.
I seem to have received a medium steak, one garlic mushroom cut in half, minus the garlic and stilton sauce which didn't taste of stilton. I was not too bothered....I was here to have a nice time.
However, we were told dogs are not allowed inside, so we sat in the beer garden...and then it rained...heavily. We asked if we might be allowed to finish our drinks inside but we were told resolutely that dogs are absolutely not allowed inside.
We decided to end our night at The Dial Inn at this point, despite planning to stay longer and potentially return tomorrow. Guess we'll have to find somewhere else.
It would have been more understandable if it was too crowded, but the place was half empty. There was plenty of room for us to take shelter with the dog.
We had read online that dogs were allowed and indeed could stay in the accommodation. Today we were told that they are not 'currently' allowed. Very bizarre, but this pub's loss will be...
