A large table of 17 people, celebrating two birthdays. Where do I start? Firstly, myself and my partner were 15 late (he is a lorry driver, traffic accident, couldn't be avoided). When we arrived all other guests on our table had ordered starters, it took 15 minutes for the member of staff to come and take our orders for starters, so I don't understand why she stated that we can order starters but she couldn't guarantee that we would get them! I opted for just the main course because of her attitude (also, poor over priced starter options, mostly types of bread!). Lamb shank was my main meal choice, however, no mash was available (strange, that's what you would expect with Lamb shank and some peas and gravy). I ordered a jacket potato in the end. I was then asked if I would like veg which I ordered. The staff were rude when bringing the food out, I felt quite uncomfortable, they spoke to us as if we were children in a school canteen, quite rude and clearly not happy with the job of serving a large table! Strangely the Lamb shank arrived on a plate with the jacket potato (lightly coated in gravy) and a side plate of Mediterranean veg (papers, mushrooms ect,). Very weird combination! Although there is a bar we were unable to pay at the bar (however, we were visiting the bar for drinks, which was the only way to obtain a drink!) Consequently all drinks went on to the table bill...... then the fun began! Paying was a nightmare (literally, for some!). We all lined up at the till and recited what we had and paid, however, there was a £16 balance left to pay! How? The majority of our group were held hostage for the remaining balance, literally, with a man standing outside the door to stop anyone leaving! Luckily I had left just before this, however, upon hearing about this I asked what it was that was left on the bill.... a side of veg, costing £3.95, yes £3.95... (this was mine, whulich i was offeredduring ordering, but not told it was extra. Why would i state i had it when paying when i was under the impression it was part of my already expensive meal)). Some drinks bills outstanding, (this could easily been avoided if they would only have let us pay at the bar upon ordering, as requested and pretty much standard for large tables to avoid confusion!). There were other disparities on the bill for items which were offered as if included then charged for as extras. I believe the confusion was unavoidable due to the nature in which the staff gained the extra sales by the deceiving nature in which the orders were taken! It states on the very last page of the menu that you may purchase a side of veg, but it does not state anywhere on the main meals that it is extra, nor do the staff inform you when offering these 'extra' options.
All in all, a shambles which I will certainly be avoiding with a large barge pole in future! Substandard service, miss matched food choices, terrible ordering system and in general, an over priced waste of time!...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our recent dining experience at The Fountain Inn was nothing short of spectacular. We visited with a large group of 16, and from start to finish, the evening was seamless, thanks to the exceptional staff and the great food.
Firstly, the staff were simply amazing. Coordinating a large table can be challenging, but the team at The Fountain Inn handled it with grace and efficiency (splitting the table into groups of A,B,C and D. was genius). Every request was met with a smile, and their attention to detail was evident throughout the evening. They ensured that our glasses were always filled, and any special dietary needs were accommodated without fuss. Their friendliness and professionalism made us feel genuinely welcomed and well cared for.
The food was equally impressive. Despite the challenge of serving a large group, every dish arrived hot, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour. The menu offered a variety of options, and each one was executed to perfection. From the starters to the desserts, every course was a testament to the chef’s skill and creativity. It’s rare to find a place that can maintain such high standards with a large group, but The Fountain Inn exceeded our expectations.
A special mention must go to the ambiance as well. The cosy, inviting atmosphere of the inn provided the perfect backdrop for our gathering. Whether you're looking for a place for a large celebration or an intimate dinner, The Fountain Inn is a fantastic choice.
Thank you to the entire team at The Fountain Inn for making our evening unforgettable. We look forward to returning...
Read moreThe first thing to note about the fountain Inn is that it's no longer a public house, purely a restaurant with rooms. Having said that there is a bar here and residents are permitted to use it as such. Though the bar covers most requirements the choices are limited to bottles or keg beers and the prices are slightly above the average for the area, check out the photos on their website but don't be fooled by the one showing old speckled hen and rev. James. The food is good quality and the portions are generous and, unlike the beer, are competitively priced using predominantly fresh ingredients (I can't speak for every meal they serve). The service was exceptional and the room comfortable, if a little space restrictive, with all the basic requirements for a short break. The location was pleasant, very little within easy walking distance but plenty within a short drive (even the nearest pub was around 2 miles away). One thing that may be of note to anyone who has difficulty with steps and stairs the disabled access is quite limited. The front entrance is disabled friendly as is an amount of the main restaurant with a ground floor disabled toilet facility, all others are accessed via a flight of stairs. Outside seating is plentiful but all on stepped terraces with no access to any without using a stairway that we could see. Being on the side of a hill they've done well with the layout but please note that getting from the car park, at the rear of the restaurant, to the front door (in order to avoid several short flights of stairs) involves going up and down a fairly...
