This month's 12/12 pre birthday meal was a visit to #thefox @thefox down in St brides Major, owned by Mr Gavin Henson... we had the absolute pleasure of being accompanied by Jackie, Ang, Stuart and Steve for this one and what a great night out it was, thank you x.... Ok back to business.... the food as you can see from the pictures looks fantastic and tasted even better, very tasty, did not have to wait very long for each course, value for money oh god yeah, in all fairness it was excellent... Service was great too, in fact the whole experience was very very good... I would highly recommend a visit, it's clean, tidy and just a really pleasant experience... do yourselves a favour pop in for a cold one and some proper tasty food....

This place has been kitted out in well-appointed fashion and was very busy on a Friday night, which probably led to the long wait for food to arrive. There’s a new small plates concept which is average value for money. The squid and cauliflower (the latter at a perfect tenderness) were first-rate, the beef with truffle mash (not pictured) delicious if a bit pricey for £14 and not medium rare as requested. Croquettes were nice, but be aware only three come on a plate, while the pork belly and mushroom omelette were pleasant. Don’t order the scallops. The (young!) service staff are beleaguered but very assiduous. Do give them a go as they bed this in!

Delicious food. Service lets it down. Staff are nice and polite but further training needed as they are busy and you quickly get forgotten. Starters came quickly and mains but had to wait over an hour for them to take away the dishes despite being asked 4 times if we can order desert and needed the plates taken away. This place could be phenomenal if they just had a bit more care for their customers. It’s unpleasant waiting around for an hour + for a simple task of taking away dishes

I stayed here in the hideaway and I also ate here. The hideaway is above a pub, so if anyone decided to stop here there will be noise that you can hear in the accommodation itself but it stops around 11pm.

I decided to eat here but didn't realise I would need to book a table, that was my own fault I should have looked into it first. However, I was still given somewhere to sit to eat. I had an appetizer, main, and desert with glass of red. It came to just over £45 just for one person.

The appetizer was pork and apple. It was juicy with abit of a crunchy outer layer of filo pastry and had abit of a kick too leaving a lovely warming sensation in my mouth, it tasted like a nice balance of sweet and spice.

The main I had the sir loin steak. The steak melted in your mouth as you bit into it, I had mine medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The chips where light and fluffy and the veg cook perfectly. I did leave my mushrooms but I'm not a huge fan of them anyway.

For desert I have the orange and almond cake with coconut sorbet which I asked for one of the waiting staff to help me pick. She was definitely right, it was beautiful! The sorbet was refreshing and the orange and almond cake went great together. The cake was soft, light, bouncy and even sticky.

The serving staff were super lovely and honestly everyone there was just so friendly and welcoming, even going out of their way to help you. You can tell alot of love is put into the food as well the place itself. Personally, I would have happily paid more for my meal, the prices that they are at the moment, you really are getting a bargain.

In the hideaway where I stayed the room was bigger then I anticipated from the pictures. The bath tub was amazing to lay in after walking/hiking for a few hours and there was even little bits to make you feel welcome like tea, coffee, crisps, olives, water. It was a really pleasant stay and I can't wait to come back to stay here. I have no issue with sleeping with sound around me, I know not everyone is like this and some people may struggle with the noise.

The only slightly negative thing was while I was in the bath, some drunk guys (not Welsh by their accent) tried the door to where I was staying. As soon as they tried the door (it was locked) another person in a Welsh accent scolded them for it. I won't lie, it gave me a lil chuckle but I know that this incident has nothing to do with the place itself and just some of the people you might encounter with it being above a pub. The door does lock automatically though so there was no chance of them gaining access.

Overall this place is amazing and I'm suprised it isn't...

Disappointing Mother’s Day Roast.

Visited for Mother’s day after seeing what looked like really good roasts on previous social media posts.

The pub has been refurbed really well and the atmosphere in there is nice. The staff on the day were pleasant and the review is no reflection on them.

The meat was overcooked, the thickness of wafer thin packet ham - overcooked, grey and rubbery as if it’d been sat under heat lamps since the morning. We had to chase the accompanying veg, which when arrived was minimal and included a solitary green bean each, was unseasoned with the cabbage coated in a film - from what I again assume from being sat under heat lamps. The Yorkshire puddings were the worst I’ve ever had, more like a flat Welsh cake than what you’d expect a chef to be able to produce considering they’re so easy to make! The half a carrot I had was raw and again unseasoned, along with the parsnip. The roasties looked promising but again, what looked like crispy ‘fresh’ roasties, were soft and the texture you get when you reheat leftovers. The chocolate dessert was also not good. An odd half brownie/half dry cake with what I assume was burnt chocolate soil (inedible) and half melted ice cream (sat under heat lamps again?). The coffee was nice though.

The whole plate lacked flavour and seasoning and the dessert was just confused. The only way to rectify on the day would have been to start from scratch which wouldn’t have been possible, and not wanting to further disappoint the occasion we made the most of it and were in and out in less than an hour I think! It’s the meal you’d expect from a £7 churn-and-burn carvery, not £19 for just the main course and that’s where the issue/disappointment lies.

What was more disappointing was the passive aggressive response another member of our party had when providing honest feedback after the event. They were told we looked like we were ‘enjoying’ on the day – I’d like to flag that there’s a difference between enjoying the company you’re with and making the most out of a not the best situation and begrudgingly spending £106 on a lacklustre roast, rather than enjoying the food.

We make it a priority to support small and local businesses but the food on the day followed by the frankly unreasonable and overly defensive response mentioned above will stop us re-visiting or recommending to wider...

today was our first time out and first time in a pub since march. so was very nervous but my husband and i wore our mask as the sign outside the pub told us to and we then entered the premises. we stood at the bar which had some liquid all over the floor with a cardboard box over the top of it ( a trip hazard) as we never been there before we didnt know what to do we were ignored by two members of staff who served 2 other people who came in to the bar after us while we were still waiting. I was then told by a customer we wouldn't get served stood there and we needed to sit down and download an app. well we were a bit flustered by then so sat down but had no Internet service and our phones wouldn't work. I then asked a lad behind the bar how i ordered a drink as i couldn't get the app he looked at me and mumbled something under his mask he then spoke to two other members of staff but still no body told us how we could purchase a drink then im presuming the manager appeared behind the bar and very rudely in a raised voice told me i needed to learn to firstly to be patient , i tried to explain i couldnt download the app my phone was not working he then told me they had wifi and again i needed to be patient but still gave me NO information on how to order a drink at this point lots of customers were looking at us so very upset and embarrassed i got up to leave i said i did not deserve to be spoken to like that and in leaving he then again rudely and aggressively said " u should have learned by now the rules ". i left that place feeling very upset and shaken up a. so if you want to feel belittled and be humiliated feel free to...
