Parked here at the National Trust car park for a visit to Penbryn Beach and decided to stop for a little treat. Café closed at 16:00 (it is February) and we arrived at 15:00 so went first. Just over £20 for two coffees, luxury hot chocolate, and three cakes (not all for me). All the cakes are displayed as home made using locally sourced ingredients, which is nice. As were the cakes! We all had different cakes and they all were lovely. Being mid February, it wasn’t that busy, but there was a steady stream of people. The staff there were friendly and polite and we were made to feel welcome. As mentioned, there is parking and there are also public facilities. The dog was welcome too. The beach is a few minutes walk, all downhill but the return journey is therefore uphill and may not be suitable for all. you can drive down, but it’s a drop off only, no parking. The beach is picturesque, some pebbles but mostly sandy. Superb way to pass some time.

What a lovely place to visit. The food was amazing and we all enjoyed it. One of the best Ham & Cheese Panini's I've ever eaten. All staff were super friendly. It was very busy when we arrived but did not wait that long for food. They sell a range of cakes, ice cream cornets and the usual cafe stuff like sandwiches etc. Don't expect to go there for a steak meal. Also the beach is not far from here but unless you are fit I would advise going the road way to beach. The other way though beautiful walking through the woodlands there are many steep steps. .

Such an awesome find.. the best sausage rolls ever tasted I've been assured.. whilst the Welsh Brie and Caramelised baby onion quiche that I had was sooo good. The cakes are what everyone come for I think, which explains why most were sold out by the time we arrived, but still, the strawberry and vanilla sponge I had was delicious, the filling a really lovely strawberry custard almost.. heaven! Come on a quiet day though I think.. it's the only place serving food and drink for Penbryn beach so the queues can be huge on hot days / bank holidays etc..

Heard all about this cafe, so thought we'd give it a try as it was very near where we were staying on holiday. Not anywhere near Plymp, which threw us trying to find it. REALLY tucked away in Penbryn, down by Tresaith beach. Arrived (admittedly) at 4.30pm, hungry after a day out. After looking at all the delicious healthy looking specials on the board (crab sarnies, toasties, quiche, paninis, soup etc) and deciding what we'd like, got to the counter and were told "Oh, we stop serving food at 4 because nobody wants to clean up the kitchen at 5 just when we're closing". Big bummer. Peak season - last week of July. No other cafes around. And you're not serving food at teatime?? It did beg the question, so why not close at 6 or 7 then? They could easily have plated up some sandwiches and a quiche to put on the counter for an hour. Their garden was full of folks eating ice creams instead of proper food for tea. Missed opportunity!! All they had available was a few cakes. Hubby had coffee and walnut cake, which was generously sliced, fluffy and lacking coffee taste but very nice. I had orange and almond cake which was like a soggy marmalade pudding with mysterious crunchy bits .....of ....eggshell....in it! Add a cuppa for hubby and it came to £8.70. Went down to the lovely beach and waited to eat properly till we got home. A couple of days later we went to the same beach, it was 11am this time so we thought we'd try the Plwmp Tart again for lunch. This time we did get some food - hubby had a panini (very nice but a bit sparing on the filling) and, seeing no salads on the menu (why???) I asked if I could have a couple of salad baguettes without the baguette! What arrived was delicious! 2 generous bowlfuls of lovely salad with all sorts of interesting things in it, and I think organic too. Balsamic glaze was requested and found. One happy Cathy! For dessert I thought I'd try what looked like the coffee and walnut cake again, but it turned out to be a carrot cake. I love carrot cake, so I thought this would be a winner, but it was so sickly sweet that I literally couldn't eat it. Waste of £4. Again the meal was expensive, but much nicer. Afterwards I made some enquiries about the place and was told apparently the Welsh have a much more laid back attitude to business than we do, and don't really think along the lines of slaving away to make a good profit. It's more about relaxing and enjoying life. Nothing wrong with that, except the tourist season is short and probably worth making the most of! We found that in general, Wales in midsummer was far less busy than Cornwall or other holiday destinations, and at times we had the whole beach to ourselves! The weather is definitely cooler than the South East, but for us this was great, as we escaped a scorching heatwave - it was 32 in the SE but...

The best lunch and cake we’ve had in a long time.

After walking from Llangrannog to Penbryn with two dogs, a 4-year-old, and a 4-month-old, The Plwmpt Tart was a sight for sore eyes. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, even indulging our spirited 4-year-old, who was most definitely having an off day.

We ordered the flattened baguettes (apologies, but we can't recall their exact name), and they turned out to be the highlight of our week in terms of eating out. The accompanying salad wasn't the usual lackluster attempt; it was simply perfect. And let's not forget the cakes – my husband enjoyed the carrot cake, while I savoured the white chocolate blondie. Both were absolutely scrummy.

Thank you all and we'll...
