Mr m,Mr m,
will not go again. . Went for Sunday lunch. Was told it can be quite busy so we booked. Wife doesn't eat red meat and doesn't like mushrooms, so we had to ask if the chef could cook her some chicken, which they agreed to do, which was nice. No bread with the mushroom soup, so I had to ask for some. Scotch egg starter was plain and had no taste. Was overpowered by the apple ketchup. Chicken main course was amazing, cooked so well and beautiful veg. Beef looked nice, but was a bit tough and I gave up chewing it. Bit disappointing. Told the staff when they collected the plates, but no response and nothing taken off the bill either. Lovely pub inside, but found the atmosphere flat and no music! And some bulbs out !the staff hardly spoke and weren't very friendly. Don't think we will rush back here anytime soon.

Stopped while travelling through. So glad we did! Wonderful, friendly staff. The food was amazing. Could not fault a thing. Flavours and presentation! We ordered the Ox cheek and lamb rump as well as the date pudding and lemon for dessert. We will definitely go back to the area just to stop again. We had been out walking at waterfalls in the area all day so we were not really appreciately dressed or clean but they welcomed us in and served us like royalty. Just loved everything about this place. The atmosphere and decor included. Highly recommended.

Stopped for lunch to break up the journey. Really friendly helpful landlord, pub is lovely and food is excellent, we had the barbecue chicken, perfectly cooked and loads of it. Overstayed by an hour! All very up to date including toilets. Would be a brilliant pub for functions, with local canal walks and the lime kiln park not too far away. Worth going out of your way to visit.

Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate special birthday. Group consisted of two vegetarians and two non vegetarians. There was only one vegetarian option available. All food tasted nice - however vegetable portions for the table were very poor - it was as if vegetarians don't eat vegetables!. Both vegetarians went home hungry and both stated they would not return due to lack of choice and poor portions. In fairness we were given more vegetables when asked. We didn't like to ask a third time. No mash with the roast - just a couple of small roast potatoes. No roast potatoes put on vegetarian plates. Communication between staff and kitchen seemed very poor. We had to remind waiters/waitresses what we had ordered so they could chase up. We asked the question whether there was any vegetarian gravy. We never received a response. We all asked for ice cream for dessert. 3 arrived together - the 4th was served about 5 mins later. We had mentioned in the booking it was a birthday celebration - it would have been nice if that had been acknowledged on the day - just a query as to whose birthday it was and a happy birthday would have been nice. The waiter/waitress were pleasant but their job was made more difficult as we were chasing them for items - and they in turn chasing the kitchen. It's a shame that the overall service and portions were poor as it diluted the fact that the food was tasty and the dining room a pleasant setting. Parking was available across the road which was...

Highly recommended if you are visiting Llansantffraid ym Mechain - or in the vicinity. We had a delicious meal, and were served by a young man and woman who couldn't have been more attentive and pleasant. The food and wine were excellent. The hotel / bar / restaurant appear to have been recently refurbished in a manner in keeping with the lovely building, sympathetically retaining many of its fascinating historic features in a spotlessly clean, comfortable, modern setting. We had an evening meal on a Friday and felt that the place deserved to be full! Clearly a lot of work has gone into making the restaurant attractive and inviting. We hope it flourishes! Splendid food, fine service in a very pleasant setting - and a reasonably priced menu. Do give it a visit; snooze...
