Stayed here on a motorhome pub stopover. Lovely location with great views. Lovely walk along the canal into Llangollen which took us about 40 minutes .worked up a thirst and appetite by the time we returned. Food was a bit hit and miss if I am being perfectly honest. I chose the Hunters Chicken and I enjoyed it. Chicken was nicely cooked, tender and a generous portion of fillet ,however The Wife chose the fish and chips and was not impressed . Did not like the batter ( too thick ) and thought the portion of fish quite small. Lady sitting next to us must have thought the same as she done the same thing and peeled the batter off and just ate the fish.I was initially going to order the steak and ale pie having read all good reviews bout it ,spoke to a couple of fellow motor homers who had also eaten there earlier. One said he ordered it and it was a bit bland, his wife’s words ,not his , he bemoaned the fact it lacked gravy and said it was a bit dry, the other guy raved about it ,said it was delicious and full of filling ,so I guess you pays your money as they say. Beer was great, service quick and friendly and the prices I thought were reasonable, so all in all a good experience. Will visit again probably soon and this time il try the pie for myself, probably ask for a pot of gravy to go with it to be on...
Read moreUsed to be absolutely fantastic a few years back but has been in a decline over the past ones. Food was excellent and is still largely pretty good, however frozen onion rings instead of the what used to be incredible homemade ones is a choice I’ll never understand. Nor using back bacon for burgers, but that’s just personal preference. Drinks are always good and neither me nor the family have had a bad pint. Only other real gripe is the current landlord can be extremely standoffish and unwelcoming. Not the best way to run a pub especially when you’re a paying customer. Not sure if he’s stressed out from the business or something but a couple of weeks off might be needed as being told in a very stern tone “you can’t sit there” multiple times despite one of the ladies behind the bar (who are all lovely btw) had told him several times that it was our table that we had booked didn’t really kick off visit well. I have been told by others in Llangollen that they have had similar run-ins. Overall a good pub, just needs the menu revisiting and a bit patience and it’ll be as perfect as...
Read moreI have visited the Sun Trevor for many years and enjoyed my visit However, last night was a totally different experience. I went with 2 friends, so dining was us and a party of 9. We waited an hour from ordering, no one came to us to explain or offer us a drink for our patients. When our food arrived, my friend asked why did we have a long wait, we were told there is only one chef, no apology. Our food was lovely, as always. We finished our food and after 40 mins I went to the bar to ask if someone could clear our table and take a desert order. He went to the kitchen, presumably to ask the waitress, 5 mins later my friend went to the kitchen door to request service again. The waitress came to our table, and we politely asked what the problem is this evening, she said nothing, and made another flippant comment, and told us we had been rude to her! We prepared to leave. Meanwhile three girls had been waiting to order for about 20 mins, they heard everything the waitress had said and didn't stay. Needless to say we won't be...
