I have been to Tides twice now since it was taken over. The first time I was a bit shocked to see that you now have to wait to be seated. I waited for a couple of minutes, despite staff walking past me several times. I only wanted a cold drink and a cake. I was told to sit wherever I wanted and asked if I wanted a menu. I explained that I only wanted a drink and a cake but how can you see what cakes they have if you have to be seated? The old system was much better. When my items were brought out to me I asked how did I pay - again, the old system was better; select, pay, sit down. I was told that it was up to me! I had ordered a slice of millionaire's shortbread and a can of Coke. The cake was the size of two fingers and I was charged £6.55 in total which I thought was very expensive. It seems that the price of a cake is the same regardless of what you choose - lesson learned! The second time, I went with my husband for lunch. Whilst we were waiting to be seated, the people in front were told that they were only serving coffee and cake. This was at 2pm! When you've walked a considerable distance in great heat, this was very disappointing to hear. We ended up spending £75 in the bar next door, instead. It's a real shame as, other than the Indian restaurant (which is amazing!) there isn't anywhere else to eat in Llanddulas. I used to love going to Tides for lunch but unfortunately it looks like I will have to get my car out and go further afield...
Read moreBeen many times over last couple of years, including after recent reopening and "new management". Always pretty poor. Nothing homemade since about a year ago, always just pre-packaged microwave/frier stuff. Every time I go, I'm disappointed. Just 1 example - the Katsu chicken had chip shop curry sauce instead of Katsu sauce, really disappointing. Don't get me wrong - I like chip shop curry sauce: on chip shop chips! Chilli and rice - tiny portion of microwave-in-a-pouch rice, shop-bought coleslaw, chilli wasn't homemade. Perhaps the mince was cooked on premises?, but not the sauce. And the grated cheese was horrible, inedible. Tasted like rubber, no resemblance to cheese. Straight from a cheap cheap packet. Heard a visitor in the nearby Beach Bar saying very similar- nowt homemade, all microwave/frier. Coffee poor. Service seems to have improved. Overpriced.
Edit. It seems that Tides replied to my review, saying that they weren't open the day I visited. Unless they have a crystal ball there's no way of knowing which day(s) I visited? I don't review soon as I get home. It was odd they resorted to accusing me of lying. Just an honest review after many visits. Further edit: Jeez Luke r u thick? I didn't say I went in the bar straight after Tides u muppet. I was going to Tides, and the bar, several times a week. Why would I lie? Maybe just accept what I said, at face value and make some...
Read moreVisited Tides on Friday evening for Tapas with my wife for the first time and it won't be the last! Quiet atmosphere for a Friday at 6pm but that was just how we like it. Selection of Tapas was great, from meat to fish to vegetarian and prices averaged out at about £7 per plate overall. Plenty of plates below £6, with only a few hitting just under the £9 per plate mark. Special on the night was wild boar sausage, which we had with the rump steak, Singapore noodles and Chicken teriyaki skewers. Beer was bottled, with a limited selection, but priced about right for a restaurant setting. So we had 4 plates plus a beer each and was suitably satisfied! Best dish for me was the 1oz x 4 Rump steak bites, with Chicken a very close second...Next time will be trying the King prawns, Squid bites and Chorizo with hopefully another wonderful house special... Decor is new, clean and comfortable, and overall very well presented and inviting. Table service was excellent as was the cooking of the dishes and nothing was too much for the friendly and caring staff, so a big well done everyone! .....definitely see you all soon! Best wishes for the business and...
