Vegetarians beware, this chef does not know what this word means. I booked this restaurant for a family meal to celebrate my husbands birthday. As a veggie, I emailed to let them know my dietary requirements. I spoke to Sue (the owner) and one of the things I told her was that I didn't eat parmesan . She said veggies who come to their restaurant do eat parmesan (even though it contains animal rennet -stomach lining of calves); I explained that parmesan was not vegetarian and I did not want to eat it.
They state on their website - "Vegetarians can be well taken care of, but a little notice will guarantee that little something extra special.". That something extra special for me was parmesan cheese on top of my starter! When I pointed it out the lovely waiter took it away, he confirmed it was parmesan and said chef was making me a new starter. Eating it I found bits of parmesan - not a new starter, just bits lifted off. see image, a bit on the rim and near a bean.
When the bill arrived, I was overcharged by £50. They had charged me £38 when my menu was £25, plus other errors, When I went to pay, Sue was adamant there was no £25 menu this afternoon and queried where I got this information from - this was in front of customers waiting to come in - I felt humiliated. She wouldn't listen when I tried to explain the menu came from the waitress, and she, herself, took the order.
I also queried getting parmesan on my starter, after having spoke to her on the phone only 24 hours before (and also having sent 2 previous emails, not replied to) - she denied all knowledge.
Then chef Bryan came out to throw his weight around, He said... "I made this menu for you" - then why did you include parmesan when I specifically asked for you not to include it in my meals?
He said... "you chose it." -(off the veg menu). Then why are you including non veggie ingredients in a veggie menu? Am I to question everything you do? Do you know what is veggie? Are you aware of my dietary requirements ? Have your staff relayed them to you? Do you care about your vegetarian customers? From comments from yourself to other customers (overheard by my father in law - I am guessing ..."no"
I can cook, and that was not a caesar dressing - veggie or not. You said you had parmesan in it because your menu said caesar dressing, and caesar dressing contained parmesan - then where were the anchovies, worcestershire sauce, egg, garlic and dijon??
I am just home and I am writing this now because chef Bryan told customers I didn't want to pay because I had too much to drink. Yes I had a drink to celebrate, but I am not as implied. My father in law heard Chef Bryan telling other customers that I had had too much to drink; implying was inebriated, and also stated to waiting customers "That's vegetarians for you..."
Tomorrow morning I am contacting trading standards for serving meat products to me and flouting my dietary requirements (as I had made them aware beforehand) under the 2010 Equality Act and Article 9 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
Great for meat and fish eaters. I would have happily paid the bill in full, but being lied to, and made out to be a liar, a freak and a drunk in front of customers is unacceptable.
No wonder I lost my temper - they are liars and...
Read moreWhat a beautiful hidden gem in Llandrillo near Corwen. A very warm welcome by the staff, we were shown into a comfy large lounge for pre dinner drinks and canapés. There was no rush here and the menu was left for our perusal. There is an excellent choice on all 3 courses. We ordered an unoaked Chardonnay from France and had Brecon Gin and light tonic as our apperitive. Sparkling water was also ordered and a decent bread basket, butter and bread sticks were on the table. Foie gras parfait was my starter choice with toasted brioche. My husband had sweetbreads. My main was chicken leg served on a potato pancake with wilted spinach and tarragon and mushroom sauce. My husband had the roasted turbot. Dessert choice of my husband was apricot tart and I had the cheese and biscuits, 4 cheeses all delicious, grapes, celery and a small piece of a date like cake filled the plate. Lots of biscuits served alongside and butter brought also(which I usually have to ask for so that made a nice change). There was plenty of food on each course sometimes in fine dining the portions are so tiny not so here. Delicious! We then strolled to the lounge where I had chosen green tea and my husband chose a cafetiere of coffee all served with lovely petit fours of which there were 4 each including a macaron, fudge and salted caramel. We had a lovely afternoon and the hours drive through lovely rural countryside made for a very enjoyable...
Read moreA new young team are now running this restaurant set in a very attractive building and immaculate grounds.|I think we were there on the second weekend with the new team. We were thrilled to be there and had a wonderful time.|The food is excellent, there is a choice of a six course taster menu or a 10 course. We were there 2 nights so tried both. We loved every course and some were outstanding. Fantastic flavours and beautiful presentation. We went with the wine flights to accompany the food and found some thoughtful and very well paired wine. |Our bedroom was comfortable and spacious. |All the staff are helpful and friendly, some of the staff who have been there a while are struggling with the changes but all are trying their best to make the handover smooth. |Breakfast was an experience, again a taster menu. A little too much for me (quantity) so i cut out some courses on my second morning. But again fabulous food and quality ingredients. |My only gripe is that it's not dog friendly, dogs are only allowed in your bedroom and outside. Given that they have 3 lounges, a bar and a 2 room restaurant there is scope there for a bit of flexibility. Over time they might learn that dog owners enjoy weekends away in lovely settings too. |The new team have lots of plans for the restaurant. I wish them well and would love to return in a year and see what they...
