My husband and I visited this week - we booked a 5pm table, and took our 3 month old baby along with us. She normally sleeps in her pram but had other ideas for us this evening. She had an extra fussy evening and I felt so bad for other people in there even though it probably wasn’t that bad. Our food came and one of the waitresses asked me multiple times if she could take her from me and try to rock her whilst we ate our dinner. I felt so so awkward and terrible but handed her over as our food had come out, and other people were trying to dine in peace around us. I couldn’t wait to leave because I just felt like we shouldn’t be there. The lady took our baby and rocked her, shushed her, showed her the lights on the bar and lots of older couples fussing over her and saying hello. I think she could sense my stress but she fell asleep with this lovely, lovely lady. She took an immense amount of stress away from me for 15 minutes, and my husband finished his food quickly and got her back and she was so much calmer and slept for the rest of our meal in our pram. I gave her a hug before we left - she was a true angel! I’ve told everyone about her since. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the setting is calm and feels quite high end. There is a lovely lounge area on entering the restaurant and I did go and sit in here to feed my baby to get away from the restaurant for a moment. It was perfect. My only complaint is the baby changing facilities. It was a drop down as usual… but it was hovered high up over the toilet and you can’t really change baby side on because the room is so narrow. Tried to do it on the floor with my travel changing mat, but couldn’t get it out of the bottom of the bag with an extremely fussy baby so ended up going outside to do it in the boot of the car hahaha! Probably the last time I take her out when it’s getting closer to bedtime. Thanks so much for a great...

Cracking Sunday roast adventure, served up with a side of chuckles! We had a 2-course feast booked for 14:45, but yours truly got a bit antsy and rang up to see if we could sneak in earlier. Lo and behold, the stars aligned, and they said, “Yippee, come on down!” So, we practically sprinted over, bellies rumbling like a couple of hungry badgers. Walking in, the place was fresh as a daisy and clean enough to eat off the floor (not that we tried, mind you). The decor screamed “modern pub chic” with a vibe so cozy you’d think you were at your nan’s for Sunday lunch, but with better lighting and fewer doilies. For starters, we dove into the prawn cocktail, and blimey, it was divine—like a retro seaside holiday in a glass. The prawns were juicy, but I’ll be honest, I was left wishing for a few more of those little pink fellas to keep the party going. Still, it was a proper nostalgic treat that had us grinning like kids at a sweet shop. Then came the mains, and oh boy, we were in for it. I went for the lamb, and the missus tackled the beef. Both were cooked to perfection, dripping with flavor, and served with all the trimmings—crispy roasties, veg that didn’t taste like sadness, and a Yorkshire pud so big it could double as a life raft. The gravy? Liquid gold, mate. By the end, we were so bloated we could’ve rolled out the door like a pair of human beach balls. Worth every waddle. All in all, a belter of a Sunday roast that left us stuffed, chuffed, and already plotting our next visit. Just chuck in a few extra prawns next time, yeah? 10/10, would...

Visited again a couple of weeks ago and the service was great and the food was excellent, even better than the last time so have amended my rating to 5 stars, will definitely be going again. Am going to leave my previous review for comparison. Visited 01/04/22

I used to go here quite regularly, but stopped a few years ago because it had gone downhill, but went again last summer after their revamp and it was excellent again. Didn't manage to go again until last night and was disappointed, the food was fine, but the service was terrible, firstly there was a mix up about the time, then we had to call someone over to ask for a couple of glasses of wine, which took over 10 minutes to arrive, then we had to call someone over again to order a bottle of wine, which was plonked down on our table & then after another 5 or 6 minutes we had to call someone over again to ask for glasses. When our main courses arrived they delivered 2 and we had to wait about 5 minutes for the third to come & my dish was different from what it said on the menu. About 10/15 minutes after the plates had been cleared someone came over to take our dessert order, but we hadn't even been given any dessert menus. They had plenty of staff, most of whom seemed to stand around the bar doing nothing. Overall a pleasant meal diminished by appalling service, will give them a few months to sort out their staffing problems & try again, if they fail again will write them off....

When you're in a small town or village it can often be a challenge finding good food as the choice is so limited. A good example of this is Porthmadog but luckily Y Sgwar is only a short drive away in Tremadog. It's definitely worth making the trip. Inside the restaurant it's immediately obvious that this is a step above the norm. It has that elegant, fine-dining aesthetic and sense of itself that's always welcome. Part of this is the level of service and we were well looked after as soon as we walked through the door. Of course none of this matters if the food isn't up to scratch. It's not an extensive menu with quite a leaning towards steak, pork and fish with limited vegetarian options. But the dishes are interesting and we were satisfied with duck breast and pork belly. This all arrived in due course. Even before taking a bite we could see that thought had been put into the presentation and that we weren't being short changed on the quantities. Then luckily our meals were also excellent being well cooked and delicately flavoured. After this we all went for desserts which were also great. I particularly liked my apple strudel with raspberry sorbet. It all went down nicely with a good bottle of Viognier. A super meal then and no more expensive than much less impressive restaurants. So do yourself a favour and book into Y Sgwar.

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! We were on holiday in Porthmadog and this place was chosen by me purely on or the customer ratings. Well I was not disappointed. I was with my father-in-law and we came here about the second day of our holiday just to have an early evening meal and it was beautiful. But we were not on the main menu and the choice was a bit more Limited so we decided to book for later on in the week and go ala carte. I had one of the nicest steaks I've ever had and my father-in-law I believe had fish but both of us enjoyed our meal and the presentation was fantastic and despite it being a second time in the week and the place was packed both occasions the service was still excellent. Staff had time to talk to you we had lots of questions about the Welsh language etc etc and they took the time to remember us especially Amy. It's a lovely quiet little place nicely decorated and nicely done. The only issue would be parking nearby as there are other pubs etc and it is in a square which means parking becomes Limited but still it's worth the effort. It was also worth every penny with paid and was on par with some of the best news we've had on our travels. A definite well-deserved 5 Stars and a big thank you
