My wife booked online via the Toby app and we visited The Broadway in Walsall this afternoon to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. Upon arrival we joined a queue of people waiting to be seen/seated at the reception desk. After a 5 minute wait, and various members of staff walking past and ignoring us, we were finally seated. After walking past numerous empty tables we were seated in what can only be described as a walkway in front of a fire escape! Wallpaper peeling off the walls, damp visible and cobwebs hanging off the wall lights … romantic! We both chose to have the carvery and joined the queue. Seeing the turkey carcass that was left, I wasn’t filled with hope. My wife chose the turkey, I had what was left off the gammon and beef. We selected the potatoes/veg and went to our seats. The turkey turned out to be as dry as it looked, and my wife left all of it. The gammon was so chewy and the beef so fatty/stringy I struggled to chew them. Cold roast potatoes, hard peas, lumpy mash … I managed to eat the Yorkshire pudding. Only then when we stopped eating were we asked if everything was ok with our meals … clearly not! To be fair, I did get a refund for my uneaten meal, but as my wife had only left the dry turkey and eaten her veg they charged her for a vegetarian carvery! Not sure she managed to eat £10 worth of veg but hey-ho! As well as the disgusting food, you’ll get to ‘enjoy’ dirty walls, damaged seat covers, cobwebs everywhere … this place needs a bloody good clean and a refurb! Be warned!

What an absolute shambles of a Toby, you can have a minimum of three meats is what is stated in the menu, came here in memory of my nan as she passed away, they only had gammon and turkey left out of four different meats, i can't have turkey and the gammon I hardly touch as it was rather dry, ended up with one meat a potato and a few carrots as the rest of the food went hard under the heat lamps. My partner who is deaf asked for a Yorkshire pudding when he didn't receive it and my mum asked for him to have one only for the guy to turn round and say he didn't ask for one when he did. Wouldn't come here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. The ladies who work here are lovely and very helpful and understanding, but the food and the chef behind cutting the meat wasn't friendly or nice at all. There must have been no communication between front of house staff and the kitchen, spoke to the lovely lady on the front who was unaware of the situation and when asked it was the first she had heard of it. For a Friday night being not that busy and in rememberance of my nan who loved to come here, it was appalling. Worst carvery I've ever had. 4 pieces of the same meat when the normal for having all 4 is 3 pieces of each is unacceptable.

Everything was wonderful, but a bit chilly, our table was positioned under an air conditioning outlet as was an adjacent table. Despite two requests from the adjacent table, it was left on as was. If it had been extremely busy or a warm day then it would have been necessary, but not during December. While some drinks were not available due to delayed deliveries, there was still sufficient choice of alternatives. However, the food service was excellent as always, the carvery chef being professional and polite, chatting as he served to help relax and make customers feel very welcome. Generous portions for everyone, the meat being tender, plus a good selection of vegetables to fill your plate as you wished. All being hot and cooked to perfection. Table service was quick, as at first the premises were quiet, but even when busy later, service level was still good. We never felt rushed over our meals and we could converse without raising our voices as there was no loud and intrusive (so called) music being played to annoy us. A true positive… All our party do recommend the Toby Broadway for a visit and we felt both welcome and that the staff cared about the service too. Thank you to all for an excellent meal.

I hate leaving bad reviews but sadly the service we recieved (and were made to pay for) was appalling. Decided to eat here Easter Sunday and it was suprinsingly quiet given the day. Plenty of empty car parking spaces as well as tables. No queue for the bar/carvery etc.

We waited to be seated and then waited a further 20 minutes for the waitress to come back to take our order. Eventually gave up, and went to the bar to order as she still hadn't returned. (Eventually found the waitresses stood at the bar all talking together). Ordered 2 meat cavaries and 1 vegetarian carvary. After an hour my vegetarian carvary still hadn't arrived and I ended up having a plate of potatos and stuffing! The bill came and I had still be charged full price for a "vegetarian meal" of nothing but potatos and stuffing. Upon querying it I was told that it was the "discounted price". I do not call £12.99 for a plate potatos, stuffing and gravy "discounted". In fact I would call it the exact opposite. When stating this I was told by the waitress that I could have gone back up for seconds if I were still hungry? So yet again more potatos and stuffing. I ordered a vegetarian melt, I shouldnt have to fill up on vegetables due to their error.

I was told that there was a lack of communication between the waitresses, bar staff, carvary staff and kitchen staff which meant my order had not been put in, but apparantly I still had my moneys worth and was charged £12.99.

As we were about to leave, the manager came over and appologised and was told that when our waitress came over to take our orders she didn't put the order in? However, we informed him that we never had a waitress at all until our plates were cleared and no body had bothered to come and take our orders we had to serve ourselves for both food and drink. Safe to say, we won't be going back to this restraurant.

The black mould all over the curtains and windowsils at our table, along with the massive hole in the cieling and cracks along the wall just shows the level of detail and cleanliness too.

The table next to us was also dirty when we arrived and there were clean cutlery just placed on the chairs. We eventually watched the waitress clear the table, then take clean cutlery off a dirty chair and place it on the table to eat. Maybe I was trained differently or expect a certain level of hygiene, but placing cutlery on a chair that has had people sitting on it and children standing on it, and then place that on the table for people to eat off is certainly not how I was taught to set/wait tables.

Really dissapointed compared to other tobys/restraunts we...

We visited today and left quite annoyed actually. We had our table booked for 12:50, as soon as we arrived we were asked what our booking was, then the manager was looking at his screen and said “I’ve only got a table available where there’s steps” and proceeded to show us where the table was, we did have a pushchair with us, but it was fine, we just got on with it. Before we even got to sit down we already had the waitress standing there watching us sit down right next to the table asking to take the drinks order, literally had no time to settle down, which was chaotic with 2 children under 4 - this annoyed me straight away. We then went up to get the food, I went up with my daughter, our younger son stayed at the table with my husband, I’ve asked for 1 kids’ carvery for them to share and just asked the chef for an extra plate so I could split the food between them at the table - I only used 1 plate for all of the kids’ food and left the other one as spare, I then sat down at the table and proceeded to split the food between them. The food itself was ok but roasters were gummy and mac and cheese had no cheese, it was literally just pasta. As we asked for our bill, we’ve received it but got charged for 2 kids’ carveries, so I pointed it out to the girl who served us and she almost immediately snapped at me saying “well next time make sure you tell the person who serves you that you’re having 1, I saw 2 plates at the table” she then walked away and I already felt agitated by the unnecessary tone of voice coming from her. When she came back she proceeded to tell us that the bar staff said we had no spare plates so I said that I’ve asked the chef for it, he gave it to us without a problem but she took it off the bill anyway - so what was the point of her comment exactly? And why am I being made to feel like I’m lying? Just petty, the waitress really needs to sort out how she’s speaking to customers, I get that it’s Walsall but we’re not even from Walsall, we had to travel over from Penkridge as Norton Canes had no tables available for that time - and they never have an issue with our children sharing a carvery and they definitely never accuse you of anything. I understand that it’s busy and you get stressed out but there is absolutely no need to be rude. It was the experience throughout. You are also more than welcome to view the cctv and see what happened when I went to get the food. We’ll never go here again and we will always stick to Norton Canes that actually has...

Been using this carvery for many year not sure if this is a new manager or hopefully a relief .as usual on a Monday we take the grand son for a meal he's only 3 .while his nan was getting his food he was watching a video on her phone to keep him from not running around the phone was not excessively loud .suddenly their was a tallish skinny guy with a beard in our 3 year old face demanding him to turn it down .at this time his nan returned with his food which would have resulted in him turning it off to eat.then the guy turned to his nan demanding he should have headphones (on a 3 year old ) This resulted in this guy laying the law down to her and being insulting and unprofessional. I asked if he was the manager as i hadn't seen him there before and was told yes I asked how long he had been manager there as he wasn't there the. Monday before and was told "you don't need to know".(as we spent many years in licencing trade again I asked).to b

e told you've never been in the trade.to this I gave him a list of several pubs we've run to be told "I don't think so" After this totally unprofessional act in front of several customers some of them we know from being regular customers of here and dudley (who also said they will be making a official complaint) we left our food and drinks on the table and asked this so called manager the name and number of the area manager to be told again "you don't need to know" If this is the best they can do for managers I can understand why the pub was empty we use the place 2_3 times a week average bill of £80 to £100 if this is how they treat regular customers they won't have many for long Needless to say we left and went to dudley where we were treated with respect and great service as usual.my son also works as a chef for M&B at the myvod in wednesbury so our family is well connected in the...
