Arrived last Sunday for a pre booked table. Daughter & mother (66yrs) we were seated next to an extremely rowdy group of diners, and after a few minutes we were asked to be seated elsewhere. I think the waitress understood why we asked to be moved, and finding another table wasnt a problem, but jeeez where was the common sense in the 1st place when seating us? I would suggest staff be trained on customer service ....I mean, you don't go into a supermarket and find tennis balls and toys stacked next to biscuits and jams and cereal do you?
Now, before arriving, me and my mom downloaded their Ember Inns app on our phones hoping to be frequent future customers, and to collect points on their loyalty card, as Ember Inns were supposed to be decent, especially if they are owned by M&B who owns, Harvester, Toby Carvery, Miller & Carter etc etc.
Anyway, on the app, there was a welcome voucher that would allow us a free drink. Upon presenting the voucher on our phones at the bar, we were told they would only accept 1 voucher. But hang on, there are 2 people, with an account each, so that's two free drinks right? The bar staff was still disagreeing with us and would only accept one voucher. Whatever, paid for the 2nd drink and proceeded to order our evening meal.
A veggie tikka skewers dish and a mediterranean style vegetable linguine was ordered, but after reaching home my mom had a terrible stomach ache which lasted for 4 days. The chips were stone cold in the middle and were not freshly made. They were returned and the next batch that arrived, (I am positive they were re-heated in in the microwave) were inedible so we left them. . . The chicken and portobello mushroom pie was by far the worst pie I've ever eaten and I am intregued to know if that really was chicken inside the pie as I am convinced otherwise. Did not enjoy the food at all and I could tell it was going to be one of those evenings when all that noncence started with the drinks at the beginning. I mean come on, it's not about not getting free drinks, you're fobbing us off with an excuse like "we can only accept 1 voucher". I wasn't using 1 voucher for 2 people - obviously that's just plain stupidity if somebody was to try that. These were two separate people, with 2 phones, presenting 2 vouchers on 2 separate accounts. Talk about being thick or what?
Again, not happy with stone cold dehydrated oven chips neither. Is it that hard to skin and cut 3 potatoes and fry them? Those vegan skewers are probably not a popular dish, however they have to offer something to their veggitarian customers, having said that they must have been very old and/+or, not have been kept in the refrigerator, or the sauce was off, something had gone bad because you don't get food poisoning with simple food for no reason. Could have been the linguine, I dont know. It was one of those two dishes. An absoloute utter disgrace. We thought to end a very busy week with a hot meal at the pub but the evening just turned out to be shambles. I should have stayed at home and cooked my own dinner. Lesson learned and £50 wasted. Thanks for the food...
Read moreWe booked Christmas Day lunch and our table was not in the restaurant it was in the bar area. The bar was packed & rowdy as Xmas day so had lots of people around us and people asking to sit at the end of our table to sit drinking! ( This was not acceptable especially as with my 11 year old daughter and booking for Christmas Day lunch vs drinking is significantly different) The was also no table service for drinks so had to wait 25 minutes to be served at the bar. At the time of our booking this should have been brought to our attention the table location & no table service for drinks as I would have not booked the table. Not sure why drinks were not offered to be pre ordered either!
The staff member we complained too was not interested or sympathetic to our situation. My husband even complained and said that his father is seriously unwell and if he wanted to be this close to people he would have invited them to our kitchen / diner where we usually have our own cooked dinner. The lady (assistant manager I think) did not care and just said that’s your table.
The Christmas dinner was disgusting to overcooked potatoes that were not fresh and had just been kept warm in oil to rock hard, cabbage, peas and sprouts! The turkey was dry & hard.
Not once after being there for over 2 hours did anyone come over to check if anything was ok with our food. Half the table was cleared from the starters plates then the mains came out while we still had some of the starter plates! Again when the courses were brought out no one asked if everything was ok.
The toilets were disgusting (had no soap in men’s) and both stunk.
You either need to get more staff to cater better and be able to serve drinks better (don’t serve all the regulars first even though they were behind people in the queue)
I would never visit your establishment again as this experience totally ruined our Christmas Day as ended up having to cook when we got home! We wanted this day to be special as my father in law has Stage 4 Cancer so we are very lucky to have him with us this Christmas. We spent over £370 on this meal so this is a shocking experience and one we will...
Read moreAbsolutely appalling 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Visited Sunday around 2pm and the queue for the bar was down right ridiculous!
Been here a couple of times on a Sunday and it’s always the same, the two poor bar staff were try their bests, but when everyone is ordering multiple meals and drinks it’s very time consuming, get an extra member of staff just for the bar and who knows they could possibly clear a table or two of plates and glasses! 15 minutes to get a drink is unacceptable!
So we then decide what we are going to eat, again a 15 minute wait! At one point a couple of managers came out to help, the male guy shouted, who’s next when clearly everyone was in a queue and was genuinely just going to serve a random person! My husband ordered chicken wings as he wasn’t overly hungry and I ordered the duo Sunday lunch, the girl on the counter asked if we wanted both at the same time, yes he replied. 20 minutes later the wings came, absolutely no problem with that length of time, we waited for the dinner to come and nothing! We asked a girl who’d bought out a Sunday lunch to an old lady sat behind us, she ordered after us, she said she’d check, she never returned!!!! 20/30/40 minutes later I had enough so I told my husband to go and get a refund and we’d go elsewhere!!
The female manager’s attitude was appalling(lady with tattoos) , firstly saying if it had been on the note they would have came out together, my husband pointed out that he was asked and said yes, the manager then said we all make mistakes, my husband agreed with her but said after 15/20 even 30 minutes wouldn’t you have come and checked we were finished with the starter?! A couldn’t care less attitude was the response and then said it was just being plated up, no was the simple answer as others who ordered way after us had had their dinners bought over, so it was just a blatant lie as she hadn’t even checked!!
It’s such a shame they don’t staff this pub correctly and train their managers to treat customers with respect as the pub is a wonderful...
