The Alfred is genuinely the best pub I've been to in a very long time. The Curran family (the owners and staff) in my opinion have hit 'the jackpot formula' for a local pub:
The community and culture: the Alfred is a family-run pub and Mark, Fiona, Joe and Josh are amazing individuals who go out of their way to make you feel at home, but most importantly, treat you like a person, not just 'another customer'. This is something most pubs tend to miss and it's really nice to have developed a familiarity/relationship with them over time. It's also nice to see the same familiar faces around the bar and restaurant - it just goes to show that people really enjoy coming regularly.
The food: I genuinely have not had a bad meal at the Alfred, and my fiancee and I have eaten there regularly in the 2 years we've been in the area. The mains portion sizes are incredibly generous (I'd be amazed if you could tuck away two, never mind three courses but I suggest you still try, as the starters and desserts are delicious as well) and the burger selection are some of the best I've had. I would highly recommend the 'Prince' or 'Molina' beef burgers!
The beer: Every time we visit, there is a new selection of ales available, and they are always delicious - there is a good variety and something to suit everyone. I recently had the pleasure of trying a few from my home town of Blackpool (250+ miles away) which was a nice surprise!
Team Alfred have also been very diligent, thorough and responsible when it comes to adhering to COVID guidelines and restrictions whilst maintaining their usual high standards - we have always felt very safe and at ease visiting during the recent turbulence due to COVID-19.
All in all, if you are in the area, or a local who is thinking of visiting (COVID guidelines allowing...), I would highly recommend dropping in for a meal or even just a drink - you'll be in good hands. We can't wait to visit after lockdown 2.0 for a beer...

I had a wonderful experience and this was topped off with a delicious, hand made and fresh £10 burger that was absolutely delectable with every last bite.
I found this pub on a whim looking for a place to eat before a long drive home, I ended up spending most of the evening here, no regrets at all!
The manager had no tables to serve me to eat but assured me I would be fed and allowed me to eat in the bar section of the resraurant, at all times I was looked after and every detail was catered for, I was very grateful for being able to be served as a walk in customer and it was lovely to see such a small pub bustling with locals
The bar staff had superior knowledge of his beers and was able to guide me to the perfectly pallatable pint for my tastes, very courteous and even remembered my name when ordering a second time. You just dont get this kind of service at any old pub. Absolutely, 110% recommend. Please visit if in the Farnham or surrounding areas. You. Will....
Read moreStopped by for a beer. Pros the barman was very friendly and a good selection of beer and ale for such a small venue. Didn't try any food. It was pretty dead but it was a Monday evening. I had been to this pub several times in the past and returned after several years. I found the owners unfriendly. There is no smoking area at all and apparently vaping is also counted as smoking in the garden. Instead of asking me not to vape they talked to me like I was scum pointing at the sign for no smoking and was advised that vaping went against their licencing laws. This is a new one to me and I'm not sure they were 100% honest in this statement. I get that vaping isn't for everyone and had they had just asked me politely not to vape this would have...
