I've been coming past this cafe for quite some time now and decided to pop in one Saturday morning for a Breakfast no.1 - It took 20 minutes after being seated for the food to arrive though i did get a nice cup of tea when i placed my order. The Food arrived cold and slightly smelling of cigarettes, the bacon tasted quite nice, the sausage was cold and chewy with gristly bits in it, The egg was cold and seemed to originate from a small hen, the fried bread was chewy cold and and tasted of smoke and finally the plum tomatoes seemed to be re-growing themselves due to the amount of knots inside them. - Review edited to provide a fairer score and feedback to reply. I have a low review amount as i tend to not go to many cafes that require i leave a review, i tend to compliment the staff in person if the food is good. This food as i state earlier was best left to a bin and asking a member of staff to rectify an ENTIRE plate of food says that you really do not check the temperature of your food when it leaves the serving area. That is a Health and hygiene issue, your staff were not busy that day there were around 10 people seated in the restaurant. Had i not been in a hurry to go to Heathrow i might of asked...

Ordered 2 sandwiches for myself and my brother on Tuesday. Unfortunately the food made both mr and my brother extremely sick. Called today to let them know this had made us extremely ill. First Lady I spoke to was lovely apologetic offered us a refund. I travelled 30 mins went into get our refund to by told the owner isn’t allowing a refund to which I was verbally assaulted. Disgusting behaviour. Is a real shame.

response to reply

i actually called your husband at the hook butchers in which he said i can have your number to call you directly. then tried to get my personal details and then decided not to give me your number and told me to just go down to the cafe on saturday. i've got photos as well as a video of your staff being verbally abusive towards myself. two of your staff members offered me a refund. i never asked for one as i was extremely concerned over potential food poisoning i even said on the phone it may be completely accidental on your behalf or even something from a supplier of yours. ive actually put a post on my social media and it actually turns out there was another potential illness from someone who ate at your cafe...

Been going to the Hook cafe for a while now, have really enjoyed it up until now. Visited on fathers day, rude lady on till. Says clearly on the menu you can swap 1 item on a set breakfast but wouldn't let me swap mushrooms for bacon or sausage as there is a difference in price. Has never been a problem before. Generally staff are very accommodating but not this rude lady. It was her attitude and the way she spoke to me, you would of thought i was asking for the world. Will not be returning because of this and it is now to expensive for what you get. What a shame! Reply to your reply: Thank you for your response. I have changed my rating slightly due to your nice message. I'm not sure what happened with the price maybe I was under charged last time, not sure. Time's are hard for everyone at the moment and every penny counts, I know you have to increase your prices its just a little out of my price range know. Or maybe I should eat less! The lady never offered me to pay the difference and I ended up swapping a egg for bacon and they are different prices. Just a bit confusing but hey ho! All the best for the future, you definitely do a...

Complained the next day due to loud music my child was extremely unsettled after waiting 1hr+ for any food… PLUS no one came over to apologise about the yet ( yes they had a busy restaurant- should be used to that being on a camp site ) yet it’s not their responsibility 🤦‍♀️ The food was awful. Steak wasn’t cooked to clients request gammon was hard, pie was soggy RAW pastry gravy lumpy battered mushrooms were cold, ICE COLD. burger was pink in the middle. NUGGETS were undercooked ( apparently they look like this 🤣) so greasy. I’ve been told no refund due to complaining the next day…however my priority like any parents is the child - 9:30pm at night and we had to go back to our tent and find something for him to eat… In a email I was told ‘ we like to have our customers happy blah blah blah ‘ yet as soon as they receive a compliment. ‘ it’s not their problem ‘

We stopped off here after visiting a friend. They were so lovely and the dogs got a little treat each! The breakfast was delicious and service was quick. Clean tables, tidy and cool inside. Nice shaded seating area outside too. It's not super local for us but when we are in the area again we will definitely be stopping in again.

Reasonably priced, tasty food that doesn't come on small plates. The brekki I had wasn't oily, had all the right colours and wasn't overcooked. The bread that accompanied my brekki was thickly sliced so great for mopping up all the leftover juices on my plate. A fab cafè that cooks up a fab roadside English brekki.
