Second visit in four days on first occasion sausage rolls ordered by both of us two accompany the coffees. After finishing the coffees I suggested to the waitress she may want to get our sausage rolls she said she would in a minute. Sausage rolls were nice but the service shoddy. Went back today. Ordered tea for two, sausage roll and a cake. Asked as it was empty if my very poorly dad could sit inside with ouR clean non shedding dog - replied no. We sat outside Waited ten minutes. Went in and had to call out for service. Despite telling you my dad is terminally ill you couldn’t be bothered to bring out his tea to keep him warm or food. You simply forgot. You then bought out the tea and cake but forgot the sausage roll. I went back In you said you had a long day on your own and had forgotten it, again. Your manager offered us a slice of free cake: we didn’t want cake. I had to ask a third time for the sausage roll. It eventually came out. Waitress apologised again and said we should have been offered a full refund we weren’t. We were offered again a free piece of cake. We didn’t want cake. As we left I realised you had charged me for service. I would have appreciated a refund of it all but at the very least a refund of service as that was dire. You may have had a hard day - I can guarantee your day wasn’t as hard as my dads or mine. We won’t be coming back again. We have been going there since I was a child. Sadly that was...
Read moreA friend and I enjoyed a walk to West Dean from Exceat and then up the steep steps and down over a field scatterred with sheep until we reached the car park, then through an archway into the old farmyard and into the beautifully restored restaurant complete with welcoming wood burning stove. This was on November 8th 2016.
Lunch was superb. My friend had parsnip soup and I had a homemade Quiche with a selection of fresh vegetables. The cappuchinos which followed were also delicious and we barely resisted the wonderful selection of cakes and scones on the counter. I told my friend about the guest rooms where you can stay for bed and breakfast which have delightful Cologne and Cotton bed linen. Well behaved dogs are allowed by arrangment (provided of course they don't jump onto the Cologne and Cotton sheets (I wouldn't blame them if they did!)
We received a very warm welcome from the owner and staff. Highly recommended. A walk down to the beach alongside a winding river would be recommended to find an appetite...
Read moreI see that the majority of poor comments here refer less to the food and more to the staff, an opinion with which I concur. On a previous occasion my wife and I waited for ten minutes in an open but empty cafe without anyone appearing behind the counter, so we left. Today we visited again, after a very tough walk out over the Seven Sisters and back again, hot, tired and thirsty, and my wife was infuriated to be left waiting for several minutes while three waitresses chatted before one eventually bothered to tell her that one of them would come out to our table and take our order. When the coffee came, the waitress dumped it on our table with as much friendly grace as if the table were unoccupied - no smile, no "Enjoy", just a total blank. No tip. I give two stars because the coffee was good. Zero stars for the staff, on either occasion we visited. You people need to buck up your ideas a bit - you can't rely on a captive audience just because you happen to be in the Seven Sisters. You won't be...
