Very disappointing. We haven’t been here for a while and have previously had really good experiences but after today we won’t be going back. There were a range of mistakes and examples a poor service through out our visit. It stared with being served regular coke when diet was ordered and got worse from there. Three people in our group have gluten allergies and it took three attempts for the staff to give us a straight answer about what we could eat (I suspect my meal may still have contained gluten). There was also some confusion about what kids menu was available on a Sunday but said anything could be made a child’s portion. The food came out very slowly, there was at least 20 minutes between the first and last plate arriving. At the end of the meal we asked for the kids ice cream , two came but we were informed that we should order and pay for the rest at the bar, we queried this as the menus said the kids meal came with free ice cream, we were then told that didn’t include Sunday and it only came with a drink (which we also hadn’t had). We argued this and pointed out the sign but we’re told we wouldn’t be charged for the ice cream we’d had but wouldn’t get the rest but could have the drinks (bit late at the end of a meal). Food was nice but I’d never go back, save you money and go to any of the other great pubs in the area. So disappointed

This was my first tine here, although I have been meaning nve to their duster pub in Normans bay. My friend took me for their ÂŁ10 3 course lunch. You have to book well in advance and it was fully booked when we went. The tables can be quite close together, but we had a nice table. There is a choice of about 5/6 starters and we went for garlic mushrooms w smoked cheese and prawn cocktail. The food was served amazingly quick and we're good portions for the price. The clientele us mostly elderly people as this offer is on Mon and Tues lunchtimes. Fir mains we chose from about ten items and had sea bass with new potatoes and peas in a white wine sauce and breaded chicken and prawns with chips and salad. For dessert we had chocolate sundae (asked for one scoop of ice cream ) as my friend was pretty full after her chicken. I had the longest meringue sundae. It was very nice with little lemon slices that were like jelly tots. Definitely come again and enjoy another great value meal. The food is good, hot and tasty. The staff are friendly and very efficient.

Wonderous atmosfer! It's definitely haunted!! As we sat by the fireplace my purse opened itself on both sides! I noticed this after my yorkie growled at it, and I looked down to see what he was upset about and saw that my clutchpurse had been opened wide. And right after we talked about leaving there was a loud bang on our table that came so suddenly out of nowhere! We were also touched by unseen hands: When I and my mother stood closely to the fireplace, my mother first felt a strong tug on the back of her hair; scaring her, and when I went near to where she was standing I felt an invisible hand tap me three times on my right upperarm! There were no bugs, or anything hanging from the wall or ceiling, anywhere near us! We could not explain it in any way! We also couldn't explain the logs by the fireplace moving on their own, or the sounds of movement and footsteps there! It's definitely worth checking out if you don't scare easy. Plus, normal service was lovely.

Well this was our place to eat yesterday after yet another hospital apt. In Bexhill. As you know my mum is always along for the ride, and those that read my reviews, yes she did the toilet facility check all was up to standard lol. For those of you new to reading any of my reviews I cant walk far and use a cane. I am a disabled driver and more than happy to report there is adequate parking. There is an outdoor area, which also serves food. We opted to eat inside. Greeted by friendly staff. It was one of our late (dunchies) was surprised to see quite a few people there at that time. The Inn itself was lovely with a high standard of cleanliness given its a 16th century Inn ( the manageress will fill you in on the history 😁) now down to the good bit FOOD! A well presented menu with one of the best selection of meals ive see in a tavern for long time. We split a starter of breaded camenbert, fresh bread and side salad with cranberry sauce. We split as I'm on a health kick at present . Tbh honest im glad we did split as more than enough for 2, on to the mains. Mum went with the steak and scampi surf n turf, came with salad and chips, she said the steak was delicious and cooked as ordered. I went with chicken and parma ham salad which is served with new potatoes food was of a high standard and well presented, we had the choice of any sauces desired. Both had cherry pie and custard for dessert and coffee and that was decent too. All the staff there were excellent thank you every one. Not one complaint from us. Mums already asking to come back as she spotted that on your menu you serve not only traditional roasts, but nutroast too so we look forward to our next visit. PRICE....came in around £43.00 very reasonable given the quality, portions and sevice. They appear to have lots of offers avaliable also. HIGHLY...

Still feeling ill the day after this happened. Arrived about 12.40 with my partner for some food. Sat down and ordered two drinks. I asked for a diet Pepsi but was told that they only had Coke. The drink that arrived was ordinary Coke, not too clever for a diabetic!! We then ordered a chicken salad and a Smuggler's burger. The food arrived about 14 minutes later, we started. The chicken salad was good and well presented, the burger was well presented BUT on eating some of the burger, the middle was cold, as in almost fridge cold, the outer crust of the burger was cooked. After bringing this to attention of the staff a new burger was "cooked" and served to me. I cut it in half and tried the middle. AGAIN it was under cooked and luke warm in the centre. The staff member came over to ask how it was; I had to say it was "marginally better" but that "I could not eat it". I asked for the bill and left at 13.14, I was not charged for the burgers.

Please check your burgers if you go to the SMUGGLERS INN. This spoilt my day, and the next. Surely, even a frozen burger, should be cooked to the correct temperature before serving.

Poor...
