We stopped for a night at the Blacksmith’s Arms in Halland on a short tour of the south coast. An incredibly warm welcome for us and dog friendly too šŸ˜„ The room was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. The pub is a cosy traditional pub with a good range of drinks and excellent food. Our evening food was freshly cooked scotch egg followed by Sunday roast - beautifully cooked roast beef with all the trimmings and breakfast was a full English with very good ingredients and an eggs Benedict both of which were delicious. We stayed on 25th October and the current managers had only taken over a couple of weeks earlier and doing a grand job. šŸ˜„šŸ˜„

My boyfriend and I spontaneously extended our holiday by an extra day and needed a place to stay last minute. My boyfriend found this pub and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff and owners are absolutely lovely. The pub is currently under renovation so don’t let that put you off, the work they have done is absolutely wonderful. Breakfast the next morning was superb and tasty. Next time I’m in the area will definitely be popping in again. Thank you

We were looking for a place near Newhaven as we were taking a morning ferry to Dieppe. The Blacksmith Arms is one of those rare special finds. A very warm welcome from Emma and Gary and on this particular evening they had a local open mike evening which was great. The rooms are perfectly adequate and the owners are planning more improvements so look forward to coming back. Thoroughly recommended.

Ver warm welcome by Emma, you pay when you check in , which wasn’t a problem. Room was on first floor, going up the stairs they have paintings by local artists for sale! The room itself was clean, bed lovely and comfortable, we had the room at the back so was very quiet. You got the usual tea, coffee and added bonus small pack of biscuits and small bottle of water. The en-suite was also very clean and toiletries were provided. Continental breakfast was included but for an extra charge there was a small selection of cooked breakfast. Can highly recommend the full English, everything cooked exactly as I like it and reasonably priced. It’s about 15/20 minutes from Lewis by car, where there’s a good selection of shops and restaurants. The pub also does food in the evenings, small selection of good quality pub food . There is a car park at side of pub. There’s also a shop in the pub , good in case you’ve forgotten anything! This place is one of the friendliest places I’ve stayed in , made to feel extremely welcome by...

I felt embarrassed for the young lady behind the bar. She was doing her best and was very polite. The first pint was clearly off, I was given another different one which wasn't really much better. 6 of us, plus my niece had food. They said they had steak, then they said they didn't have steak, then they did. The steaks looked grey and anaemic but were edible. A small portion of chips and very inconsistent portions of peas. (one had, at most, a table spoon of peas, the other had so few that it wasn't really worth putting them on the plate. My fiancées burger was raw in the middle, and when I told the man behind the bar (who said he was the owner) he wasn't interested in the slightest. His reply was "that's how people like them" but he didn't even come to look at the burger for himself. A disappointing first night to our holiday, and a waste of £130.

I did not understand why the pub is called The Blacksmiths Arms, and yet on the receipt and bank statement its says The Black Lion.

Will not...

This is a wonderful warm, welcoming pub and restaurant with rooms.|We have stayed there previously, and it was our first choice for our visit to East Sussex again.|The bar is comfortable, cosy, and a pleasure to relax in; all supported by the fabulous landlady Emma. Plus my favourite cider!|We stayed for two nights in a more than adequate bedroom. By this, I mean it's not large but has everything you need, including coffee, tea biscuits, as well as toiletries in the shower room - the shower being the easiest I've ever used! |We had a real pub dinner on Saturday evening - scampi and cod - fresh and beautifully cooked by Emma's partner, Gary. Although there is so much: look at the website. Breakfast likewise was delicious.|So, all in all, a great stay!...
