If you're passing through or lucky enough to live nearby, do yourself a favour and stop into this wonderful little village store café — it's an absolute treasure. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed like an old friend. The staff here go above and beyond — genuine smiles, attentive service, and that rare warmth that makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place where they remember your name and your coffee order. Speaking of coffee — it’s seriously good. Rich, smooth, and expertly made every time. You can tell they take real pride in it. And the food? Fresh, hearty, and packed with flavour. Whether you're after a full breakfast, a light lunch, or just a cheeky slice of cake, everything is made with care and always hits the spot. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting — think rustic charm meets modern comfort. Whether you're catching up with a friend, enjoying a quiet moment alone, or just grabbing something on the go, this café delivers every single time. In short: amazing food, fantastic coffee, and service that truly sets it apart. This isn’t just a café — it’s a community hub, and it’s run by people who clearly love what they do.

The food, staff and atmosphere are all fantastic. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly! Dan warmly welcomed us like old friends and is so funny and entertaining. We loved it so much we visited twice in one day. We had gluten free coffee and walnut cake in the morning (delicious). Then we returned for a late lunch and again the food and service was brilliant. I had a halloumi, pesto and avocado salad, which was huge and very tasty. My husband had the generous soup platter with gluten free toastie and salad. We ate every scrap. Thank you to all the staff for being so smiley, friendly and helpful. The Village Shop is a must if you’re in the area!

Amazing, tasteful, friendly and interesting. After a stressful weekend in Brighton we wanted to get out and see something new. A breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the Village Shop made sure our day started perfectly. Outstanding service, friendly and quick, paying attention to small details. Extremely clean and a very welcoming atmosphere. Defenitely the best breakfast i've had in a really long time! I can only recommend!

I have been here around twice a week for the past 5 years due to its lack of competition. They are a very good store/restaurant with friendly staff and a nice warm, cosy country feel to it. They serve a very good breakfast up to mid day and from then on, lunch. They have a suprising amount of customers due to its proximity to a 800 student school, however they only come at certain times. If this is a worry to you avoid 1030 - 11, 1300 - 1440 and 1640 - 1700.

I have given three stars because of the unnecessarily high prices with a relatively basic panini costing the same as in a coffee shop in central London. They also seem to have little respect for the students. This is unfortunate since they are the ones bringing most of the income for them. For this I have dropped from four to three.

Overall, recommended, as long as your not a student with a...

I have visited The Village Shop and Upper Dicker Cafe, many times over the past 4-5 years.. locally famous, not just for it's beautiful surrounding, the grouped opera vocals when calling customers on the green, the comical greetings cards, to the sublime quality of ingredients and the art/love it takes to cook so well, so consistently!

A bold but true & honest statement.. built not off of one off the cuff interaction but a series of sporadic, planned and unplanned visits with different groups of people.

THIS IS THE BEST BREAKFAST IN SUSSEX when you take everything into account, this is it.. this is somewhere you will want to move to because of one shop. And that is a...
