Hatfield Tap — Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

Noisy pub with some beers and food. Mcmullens hasn't done a lot to it when they refurbished it compared to many of the others they own, missed opportunity as it is the only pub serving a large corner of the town. Not a very imaginative refurb. A bit more stuff to break up the interior and some soft furnishings and things could stop it being so noisy as one loud group on another side of the single large room can make it so you can barely hear a conversation while sat at a table having a drink or meal. Food is OK but found a lot of it very salty. Fish and chips took best part of an hour a few weeks ago even though there were barely any other people eating in there. But it was nice when it came out eventually. Another time a burger came out with half of it missing and had to send it back to have the other patty added. Wasn't very nice for the price, it is not cheap food here.

A lot of the time it is relatively empty even though the catchment area for the pub is huge, there are smaller pubs with much more competition in other parts of town which get a lot more custom so the potential is huge, especially when the area is fully redeveloped with all the new flats on the doorstep.

There is a lot more potential for this place but mcmullens needs to invest in it like they do some of their other pubs, this is a poor relation compared to the interiors of many of their other pubs around Hertfordshire and other places they own pubs. You wouldn't think they're owned by the same company if you looked at this one and then some of their others! The staff working there are consistently nice to deal with though, bar staff and manager a credit to the company. Hope this pub reaches what it can be in the next few years so us living local don't have to venture to other parts of town for a nice...

Very disappointing experience today, me and my rugby team went to watch the FINAL of the women’s rugby World Cup, watched all the way through until the last 20 minutes with music blaring over it so we couldn’t hear anything, but didn’t complain because we were happy it was being shown. The final 20 minutes the tv went blank and it was switched off for a Sunderland Saturday match, which was totally unfair, it would be slightly more understandable if it was a really important match like the euros, however it was not- and to switch the world final off (which England were playing) for a for a premier league game is a clear representation of how this establishment feels towards women’s sports and the lack of thought and respect for women’s opportunities in sports. It is a real shame because a lot of our team were always coming down to the Hatfield tap, and now unfortunately we will not be continuing this, it is truly hurtful to our team considering the Hatfield Tap sponsor our men’s rugby team- and we have always supported the tap with events. But I suppose today has been an enlightening experience- learning that our favourite local pub has truly no support or respect for the sport that we try so hard to gain representation for. Hired function room Tap 2 for our daughters 21st birthday. 17th February 2024. A great room for larger style parties. (Ours approx 70) however would fit alot more. It has its own bar and separate toilets. Big dance floor! We had free reign to decorate the room as we wanted and hired our own dj and photo booth which the room has ample space to suit. All the food was ordered directly from them also which was a hot and tasty mixed buffet of freshly cooked pizza, wraps, nachos, wedges, fries and chicken strips. The pizzas and wraps were particularly amazing! Our party did spill out into the main pub but I can honestly say everyone mixed well and there was a nice atmosphere generally within the pub side. The manager Tristan was professional and accomodating to our needs whilst planning with excellent communication throughout the process. All of his team including security staff on the night were all extremely helpful and welcoming. We all had a really fun, stress free night! Would...
