I organised a party of 33 family members for roast dinner on New Years Day. I didn't know what to expect as I'd dined in The Sun before the new landlord Danny had taken over and wasn't too impressed. Well we were really looked after and the roast was amazing. Everyone in my party were very complimentary about the food. All the staff were really helpful and nothing was a problem. We had a child with us who had a nut allergy and her mum who was a vegetarian so she couldn't have the nutroast option and it had to be mushroom free. When I called to explain Izzy and the chef said this was not a problem at all and would make her something really tasty. They had made her a caremisled onion tart which she loved! £12.00 for a lovely good sized roast but if four of you are dining you can take the option of two big platters of roast to share for £40.00 which is great value. A few of us stayed into the evening to have a few drinks by the lovely crackling fireplace...perfect! Denise, Izzy and the guys behind the bar were really warm and friendly and delivered a fantastic service and a lovely New Year's Day. Thank you. I've found my new home for...

Pub itself seems nice and the staff and beer were faultless. However they advertised a band on lemonrock starting at 8pm. I left at 9 with the band still setting up. Perhaps acceptable from international rockstars but at a small pub in lemsford...that took a while to walk too....a little disappointing. The lack of announcements or explanations led to the lack of stars in the review as well. As I said though, a decent pub with good beer so maybe it was the band rather than the bar that was at fault? At least they are inviting bands in to help business after the last 18 months...a shame they, and I, were let down. EDIT...following the below reply from the management of the pub I have amended the stars (increased) and wish I had been more aware of the circumstances. I wrongly thought there were sites other than lemonrock showing the incorrect time but I accept I made a mistake and I had simply been forwarded a link to lemonrock in an email as well as looking myself. Apologies and I look forward to another...

Disappointed! Would be zero but has to have a star to verify. After checking (online) for a pub that fitted our requirements, we opted for this venue. We parked our cars at Wheathampstead and set off on the Brocket loop, aiming for lunch at The Sun Inn in the early afternoon. Upon arrival around 14:30, we could immediately see that the pub was NOT open but a chalk board by the door stated opening times declared it should be open. Whilst I understand that "things happen", it was really disappointing to find it closed as we couldn't just hop back in the cars and go somewhere else. We spoke with a villager who told us that the pub days and hours have become very hit and miss due to a new owner. Maybe someone could clarify this so that others don't have the same problem? As this was a one off visit, I won't be back to...

What a great pub to stop in at during our tour of the English countryside. Fiona and Izzy are fantastic hosts. So polite and caring. Always taking time to make genuine conversation. The lunch selections are great and the quality of the food was wonderful. A wide selection of lagers, ales, wines, and spirits. The setting is very nice as there are options of being in the bar, a dining room, outdoor beer garden, or picnic tables up front to take in the sun. Can't wait to come back and visit!

Stopped here for a bite to eat. Dog friendly in the front garden, but not in the pub or courtyard. Pud was clean and tidy. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. We ordered food, which came freshly prepared and piping hot. We had to reorder a couple of items as they were out of stock. Large car park. Would go again

A great pub with character in the village of lemsford ideal for walkers , bike riders or if you fancy a good ale or food . Never had a bad experience here and would recommend this pub for drinks and food. I have heard that the Sunday roast is very good . Well worth a try . The director's is very good 🍻
