Due to covid 19 i cancelled the 2 night stay for march 26 2020.However this was at the start of the shutdown so I was hoping for an understanding voice on the end on the phone to give me options for re booking or a refund.I had already phoned 2 other hotels and had no trouble with re booking later dates with no penalty or extra charges for different times or even if i felt uncomfortable later on I could cancel for a refund.Unfortunately the manager of this hotel Mr Robert Fleming was far from helpful ,In fact to start with very unhelpful , when i gave him a couple of dates in September he wanted to charge extra siting height of season prices even though it wasn't. When i questioned him about this he actually got quite aggressive on the phone and told me this virus will all be over in a couple of months and basically what are you worrying about. At this point I told him I wouldn't want to stay anyway so I would be asking booking company for a refund. After about 10 minutes he must have thought about his behaviour because he phoned me back to say he had refunded the money paid.So can't comment on the hotel accommodation or food but given he is the manager, maybe he should be a silent manager and employ someone who can talk to customers properly, You might find someone else could bring in more customers so you wouldn't need to use third party booking companies to...
Read moreThis is our second stay at this establishment. I previously stayed here in May, and we returned as we have more work in the area. Just like our first visit, it was Quiz Night (held on Wednesdays), and the managers (Robert & Richard) kindly let us participate again.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and enjoyed some drinks in the rear courtyard area before having dinner. The food was exceptional. I had a gourmet hamburger and chips, and it was one of the best hamburgers I have ever had! See attached photo.
Regarding the quiz, we sat in the snug this time as the main restaurant area was fully booked. Nonetheless, the hosts made a great effort to make us feel involved. There was a speaker system that allowed us to hear the quiz, and the quiz master (Richard) checked on us intermittently.
This time, I stayed in The Priory room (I was in the Eleanor room on the previous occasion). The room was clean and wonderful, as was the bathroom. On departure this morning, we chose to have the omelet for breakfast. It was amazing, like a calzone with cheese and bacon inside.
All in all, we were made to feel very welcome. The atmosphere was brilliant (it was quiz night), and the building, rooms, decor, service and food were all excellent. We shall come again if we have more work...
Read moreI made a call and spoke to the proprietor to book a table for my family to attend for lunch, and separately my grandmother telephoned. I would not usually post a review, particularly a negative one, but both my grandmother and I found the proprietor to be very rude when we spoke to him separately.
I then decided to look at the reviews, and his responses just illustrate how rude he is. It’s a shame really because my grandparents live in the village and we would have come here often, but regardless of the food and standard of service, visiting somewhere where the proprietor cannot take constructive criticism and judges people just does not appeal to us. Maybe some reflecting and being less antagonistic would do him some good and would mean that customers felt more like they could approach him if they had an issue (i.e. flat drinks, an afternoon tea which they didn’t enjoy). It’s all very well asking people why they did not try to get the issue dealt with at the time, but why would people if they would get a reaction like this. I agree with another review on here that maybe someone else should be employed to deal with front of...
