It was our first visit to the Eden tearoom on Sunday and the only way we can describe it was – Poor!! We live locally and have seen the building being built, new owners take on the lease etc… then shortly afterwards shutting due to Covid etc. So we thought we’d give it a try, now, I wish we hadn’t…. We looked forward to our Sunday breakfast and upon perusing the menu my partner had the scrambled egg on toast, where I settled for the cooked breakfast. Our drinks arrived first and the only way I can describe them are gold rimmed cups, teapot with a gold coloured milk jug…. Certainly not my taste, but the drinks were good… Then the food arrived… The scrambled eggs were good, and I wish I’d have chosen them!! My breakfast on the other hand… It came with ranch style mixed beans which were incredibly ‘Smokey’ (not sure who thinks these are good on a cooked breakfast!!), the poached egg was a couple of seconds being a solid egg yolk, the bacon was also very smokey and it looked like it had been cooked on a tray in an oven (with little love put into it), now I come to the sausage, it was a decent size and again looked like it had just been on a tray in the oven! Well, the taste…. I wasn’t anything more than a poor quality catering sausage, very little substance, containing lots of oats to bulk it out!! This is a shame as there’s a fantastic meat farm shop less than 4 miles away who sell fantastic sausages! How can I sum up the taste experience, on a par to a standard roadside café at twice the cost, but Eden does present the customer with posh cups/teapots etc!! Personally, I think you should go back to food basics and try other local bistros as you might learn a thing or two….. Would we return??...
Read moreAn absolutely awful experience. Booked a table for two to attend with my friend.we were put on a table at the front of the building. The sun was very bright, shining in my friends eyes. We placed our order and asked if we could possibly change tables due to the sun. The young lady serving us said she would ask. We were told we couldn’t change tables because all of the other tables (approximately 10 empty tables) were booked. We explained we had booked also so could we swap to one of the empty tables. We were refused and told if we’re not happy then leave !!! My goodness, to say we were astonished by this response was an understatement! The chef noticed my amazement and asked if I was alright, I said no not really and started to explain what had happened. I asked her if there was a manager or owner I could discuss it with. The chef told me the person who refused to allow us to swap tables was in fact the manager/owner ! It was at this point the manager returned and told me I shouldn’t be speaking to the chef because she has to cook. I explained the chef had kindly asked if I was alright and I was responding. The manager /owner refused to help us and said just leave. Our food arrived but unfortunately our day had been spoilt so we left. The chef ( who was lovely ) apologised. I thanked her for being so pleasant and we left .. totally astonished ! I have never left a review before but this was such a terrible experience I strongly suggest you DO NOT choose this tea room for a visit ! 1star for the...
Read moreReally disappointing experience. We ordered the curry and ‘blackened’ chicken tacos. Unfortunately the curry was more like a flavourless stew and there was no coconut in sight as described in the menu. We asked to swap the meal to the beef brisket which had again absolutely no flavour and was placed on a soggy piece of bread. The ‘blackened’ chicken was just normal chicken with a little flavouring. Don’t describe something in a menu if that’s not what comes out of the kitchen. The ‘spicy’ wedges had not seen a spice in their life as a what looked like a previously cooked chopped up jacket potato. The only redeeming thing was the tea. We would not recommend at all. The waiting staff were generally ok and did offer to swop but one waitress was very rude when putting the new dish down. The girl on the front desk was really lovely and apologised for the experience not that it was her fault but at least it was recognised just basic...
