Went here for lunch yesterday as its been a while and it's a nice drive. So very nice welcome from the lady behind the bar. We got drinks and found table in the restaurant . There is a fair selection of food on the menu and we ordered a rump steak with chips and peas and peppercorn sauce for me,and my wife ordered the gammon chips and peas with pineapple and fried egg. The food arrived quite quickly and in general was very nice,my steak was delicious and very nicely cooked medium.and the peppercorn sauce was delicious. My wife's Gammon was also very nice and the chips and egg etc. very well cooked and tasty! The only slight downer was the garden peas which were edible but a bit like bullets, maybe needed a bit longer in the micro or petit pois type which are always nice. I had a Guinness alcohol free and wife had 2 medium glasses of pinot grigio which was really nice. The pub itself is very cosy with nooks and crannies to sit in and the restaurant has comfortable seating and tables. Slight criticism would be there were a few bits of rubbish and dropped food under some of the seats and tables so needed a good hoovering. Overall though a very nice experience with nice food and ambience and very reasonably priced,so we will...

We wrote about our experience on the first night. The second night was quiet and although we wanted a double room, the empty doubles were not offered. Thus we had to persevere with a twin. The morning was disastrous. We awoke expecting to be showered and attend another private meeting, but, although the water had been off since 0630hrs, nobody informed us. Thus, the toilet, sink and shower were unusable. We have not been offered any compensation, and although after the previous night's 'issues', we were kindly provided with a free lunch, it absolutely devastated our day. It must be said, communication is key. Whilst longer term bookings by companies are good we do not accept discrimination and Threats against staff who feel so vulnerable that they have to turn to guests for reassurance and protection. Great manager, but he can't be everywhere at all times. The young man behind the bar was very pleasant, otherwise significant...

We came for our Christmas night out with our staff members, the food wasn’t the best and the service was shocking !! The waitress was not very approachable in a sense of having a moody face and was just throwing the food down like it was hard work and didn’t want to be there! To a point one of my party members said she didn’t want to wear it as it was neatly dropped on her when put down. Also we pre ordered our food and the starts where wrong and then so where the mains. However a member of the team then came out and put the piece of paper on the table forcefully and said this is what you ordered and that’s what’s been made ! Very rude. Even though it was changed and crossed out. Also the table wasn’t decorated except just a Christmas cracker no Xmas music on just not a very festive mood. So we will not be returning! Which is very sad as we have been before for lunch and this atmosphere has now stopped us...

Needed to be in Liverpool for a uni open day so stayed here for an overnight stay. Rooms were clean, showers got and staff nice and helpful. Ate here with my youngest, vegan, and she said it was top notch vegan fare. I had the burger which was freshly made and excellent quality. Breakfast the following day was again very, very nice. Local sausages I'd bet as they were delicious. Took 40 mins to get into Liverpool which was hideously expensive for the Friday we stayed. (ÂŁ250+). Here was ÂŁ49.50 on booking.c with genius discount. Great value and great stay. Would recommend. *Second stay, still as good. Two rooms for two nights booked this time. Third stay. Two nights. Bit more pricey Saturday night as everywhere more expensive due to moving in day for universities. (Which is why we are here). Still a lovely breakfast and nice staff.

went here for a birthday lunch and ordered 2 sirloin steak meals. they came quite quickly but we're the worst steaks we had ever had. so bad that as hungry as we were we couldt eat they were so overcooked dry and chewy and we ordered rare and medium. chips and peas were under cooked. we complained the barmaid agreed with us on looking at it but then went on to only offer us a complimentary drink by way of a apology. unable to speak to the manager I emailed him but never got a response. never waste my money there again

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I stayed for one night in the hotel whilst cycling around the area and the room was lovely, very clean and comfortable. There were good choices on the food menu. I had the Vegetarian Thai-style curry which was excellent and there is a good choice of drinks behind the bar. I had the Vegetarian cooked breakfast in the morning which again was excellent and very good value for money. I would thoroughly recommend visiting the Red Lion.
