I'm going to start this review by saying I didn't want to go here but the wife convinced me, we had very rare child free afternoon (thanks mum and dad 😀) and I wanted to take her somewhere special, a trendy bistro, showy, a bit contrived, you get the gist. I'm so pleased she did, after previously taking the kids here for some of the best cakes she's ever seen or tasted the previous day. One of my fondest memories of my gran was when I was at university, I'd visit her and she'd always cook my favourite dinner steak & gravy and chips, I miss her dearly, and since she passed, no-one has come close to that meal despite multiple attempts. Well today we ordered the peppered steak baguette and it was as close to that as I've ever got, absolutely delicious, the plate as you can see was massive and also reasonably priced. I sit here writing this completely full and equally as content. A lovely little location tucked away by the narrow boats with cosy tables in sheds to hide away and fantastic service. I've been lucky to eat in some of the best restaurants in London, Liverpool, Manchester in my 40 years on this planet, but I've never left one feeling this content and happy. I'd take this over those contrived showey bistros any day! I'm so glad this is so close to my parents new house, as I'll be coming here every time I visit. I can't recommend this place any more highly, if you haven't visited, please do, it's a hidden gem.

We had lunch Thurs whilst visiting the area. Lunch was proving difficult as we had our dog with us and many cafés were terrace areas only for dogs. Due to the heavy rain we couldn't sit outside. We passed the sign for the Boathouse Brasserie and I called ahead to ask. Although dogs aren't allowed inside the main café I was told about their outside cabins where we were all welcome 🐾 We had the baguette sandwich which was piping hit and delicious - they are huge, we maybe should have shared! The millionaire shortbread looked amazing so I bought a piece to take home and it was didn't diappoint. We can totally recommend, the staff were all so friendly - thank you, you brightened up a miserable wet day 😊

The Boathouse Brasserie is situated on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at St Mary’s Marina. The brasserie is housed in a converted dairy farm. The brasserie specialises in home-cooked classical British dishes alongside international classics, using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. It is particularly renowned for its homemade cakes, gateaux, pies, and tray bakes. The food is consistently excellent, and the staff are friendly and very efficient. As well as seating within the brasserie, there are garden huts, along with outdoor seating. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment, as the Boathouse is very popular with locals.

Ladies Who Lunch !Prebooked an outside 'pod' bcoz it can get busy here, so recommend this, so you're not dissappointed as a 'walk in'. The staff were very prompt taking our order & very smiley & friendly. My friend & i both ordered the 'half soup & sandwich' which was more than enough, when it arrived within 15 mins of ordering. There is a good choice on the menu, for light bites & full meals. The soup(tomato & basil, for that day) was piping hot & sandwich had generous filling( i had the prawn). The side salad & coleslaw were chunchy fresh & tasty too. I think the 'regular size' soup would have been too large, for us anyway , but it meant we had room to choose a slice of one of The Most Fabulous Cakes on offer in the display inside. We had a scone, which was like a mini mountain ! & a sicilian lemon sponge slice. Both fresh & light but huge ! But this is what The Boathouse is known for - you got to try it, to believe it ! - & you wont be disappointed ! Never had a bad meal/experience here. The setting is covid safe & lovely to look out onto the boats in the Marina. Plenty of parking at the back. Its also disability accessible with very clean toilets inside, right at back but easy to get through rows of tables. Had a nice couple of hours here. My friend hadn't been b4 and wants to go back now, regularly, so we can eat our way thru the cakes on display...

Went for a late lunch. Loads of staff and empty tables. The sign at the door says to wait to be seated so we duly waited, and waited, and waited! Staff kept looking at us but never came over or said they would be with us soon. In the end I asked a staff member if we could sit outside. She said yes and to pick any table. We sat at a table and then waited for someone to come and serve us. And we waited and waited!! Eventually I popped inside and asked someone behind the counter if anyone was serving outside. She asked who had seated us and when I said we had been told to sit anywhere she blamed us and said ‘there you go then, you have to wait to be seated’ she asked what table we were at so I told her and went back to the table. I (mistakenly) thought someone would come right out to us but they didn’t so we got up and left. Have been here before and the food is great but I cannot abide bad service so we’ll not be...
