Read moreDreadful Christmas experience - We often eat at the Hesketh Arms, so we booked our works Christmas lunch here, expecting a happy festive dining experience. - Sadly that's not what we got. Our table was in an area with very little festive cheer or xmas decorations- 2 cones and a polar bear just don't cut it. We had booked the festive menu, but no xmas crackers or anything remotely festive on the table. The music was primarily country, rock & roll with the occasional Christmas song - so again a very poor festive effort. The staff were unable to change any of the music Now the meal, firstly, the staff and service were great, but the festive menu left a lot to be desired. The starters were generally ok. The mains that let everything down was the Turkey dinner - very sad & lacklustre and the 'roast potatoes were the worst. one person said - yesterdays spuds heated up - another said frozen and I felt they were deep fried to get them warm. overall the main turkey dinner was not good I certainly wouldn't order it again. The desserts were also an issue -some good some not so good. the strudel was such a pathetic size I thought it was a joke at first. cheesecake & sponge were ok the choc pot was weird the cherries were NOT sour as meant and when the customer has to prize the chocolate fudge apart which is on top of a soft caramel sauce base it was messy
I was so underwhelmed and disappointed with our experience today especially during a 'festive event' I may well pop in for fish & chips in the future but I don't believe I will book a table for anything significant in the future.
the senior management need to improve what they offer to the customer. the staff on duty would appear to have little or no control to improve things. I certainly wouldn't recommend anything.
I don't spend my time taking photos of my...
Read moreWe visit often. This visit we brought friends as we are always telling them how great the Hesketh food, service and ambiance is!!! Tempting providence??? Yes it was. Arriving the Hesketh was dark, very cold and was so uninviting. Totally DRAB. We really enjoy our visits to the Hesketh. Food and service always excellent. A very cold day and no fire lit???!!! Come on it’s Winter. Food was not good. 2- fish pies arrived. Both ladies requested spoons and renamed their meals Fish soup. Laura who is always very helpful and bright and cheerful agreed they were not correctly prepared by whoever made them. Our fudge deserts arrived in small glass jars with desert forks to eat the fudge, good idea but no use to eat this fudge with, hard and just shattered into pieces when you did get the fork into a piece. Then on eating it was so overly sweet and shattered into what I can only describe as what a sugar lump would do when chewed. Thousands of sugary grains. Fudge doesn’t do this!!!
A total disaster of a visit. We could see the menu had some changes but even selecting standard items like Haddock Goujons the tartare sauce was wonderful and a vibrant colour on past visits. This Tartare sauce was awful.
The Hesketh is a Seafood pub company venue, Wednesday was far from being the standard of a Seafood pub company venue. But Laura was very apologetic, came up with good answers with our comments. She shouldn’t have to. She’s great and perfect at front of house. She needs better back up from the kitchen!!!
You did ask for a review!!! Not the enjoyable visit we have always experienced and sadly you’ve lost 2 new customers who are good spenders and eat out every week. You’ve probably lost us as well because in hindsight the price for what we did eat was...
