As a local I am desperate for this pub to succeed however itβs fate is sealed unless it makes up its mind on its identity. It is in a wonderful rural canal side location but is trying to be an urban sports bar with huge tvβs and fruit machine, I have visited numerous times usually on a weekend and it is understandably quiet, where are these people it hopes to attract in this rural location? We decided to give it another go today just in case it had improvedβ¦. On asking what cask ale was on the bar staff said we have two but did not know the names of them as the pumps were not labelled? both ales were clearly off and looked awful when poured so I politely declined and requested a Guinness as a last resort. I assume the previous pint had some blackcurrant in as the head of my pint had a reddish tint. Not wanting to sit amongst the 3 huge tvβs we sat outside, decided not to drink the Guinness or try the food for obvious reasons as cleanliness did not seem to be a priority that day despite how quiet it was, Not sure we will try again...
Β Β Β Read moreWhat a shame after reading all the 5 star reviews we decided to have a ride out to Burscogh as we approched the venue we found a small car park at the side of a blue building that looked derelict as windows were blacked out and upstairs window boarded up we walked around the building and found it open when we went inside their was 3 ladies serving and we were told no cask beer on offer so had to have keg but determined to enjoy our trip we sat down and no one approached so after 1/2 hour I got up and retrieved the menuβs myself and ordered our meals that were quite tasty after eating the mains we sat another 1/2 hour waiting for sweet so I approached the bar asking wether I had ordered a sweet or not and was told I had which came 1/2 later which my wife enjoyed so off we went to pay our tab and went home on looking on the receipt we had been charged for a drink we didnβt have which is my fault for not checking it before paying which completed our Wednesday day out you learn things every day unfortunately canβt see us returning...
Β Β Β Read moreGreat pub food, very friendly crowd. Highly recommended, especially in the summer, for long summer canalside evenings. But went last night in a full on storm. Stiil had a great time and great burger and a pint.
I dont know how I can post another review, must work on this. The Slipway is now under new management and new chef. We went again yesterday 8/9/2020. The new menu is very basic, so we had the same order as before, (burger and chips) The food was priced the same but was just awful, a mess of supermarket products except perhaps the burger pattie, my partner said hers was good, perhaps I had an old one, it was thin and sour. The side salad was just cheap coleslaw. The beer selection has also been trimmed to its detriment. I know this all sounds rather poor but, they are new managers, and in these covid days it must be so difficult to just to break even. However the location remains both excellent and dog friendly. I hope for much better things...
