Man O'War Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in West Lulworth

It is a shame how the unwelcoming and plain rude staff, notably the manager herself, is the reason why I will not recommend coming to Durdle Door Holiday Park nor will I come back. The area around campsite is scenic but the service here is horrid! We asked to have a reservation in an empty restaurant and told it is fully booked number of times. Problem here is that without a reservation you cannot have food and this place is the only source of food in the area (pods don’t have kitchens nor fridges to have food). After we basically begged and explained this is inexplicable behavior a very rude manager with the ‘Holier than thou’ attitude from Godfather told us we can have takeaway food in an hour. We truthfully tried to be nice but evidently received this treatment only for our young age even though we never caused issues, had means to pay and we’re polite at all times. Older couples and families were never turned away nor treated similarly. Is Durdle Door not student friendly? Are we animals to them? I personally urge the establishment of this place to replace this woman as the manager, she does not have basic manners nor basic knowledge on how to work in hospitality nor tourism. For example, leaning on our table while talking to us and using intimidating and condescending voice and words ruined what could have been a nice evening to finish off our long day of hiking. Another example would be when we asked for a reservation and she said ‘no’ and walked off turning her back to us while offering no explanation nor trying to please the customers. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE OF COLOUR. Our visit to this restaurant was disappointing from the start due to the unprofessional and unwelcoming attitude of the male staff member on duty. His behaviour towards me and my team was dismissive and passive-aggressive. He failed to explain key details about the menu, and one team member’s order was completely wrong despite her clearly stating dietary requirements and asking for specific exclusions.

To make matters worse, I wasn’t allowed to enter the restaurant until I threw away an empty Coke bottle in the only bin available, which was across the street. The whole interaction felt unnecessarily hostile and unaccommodating.

As a person of colour, I couldn’t help but feel the treatment we received was racially motivated. It was a deeply uncomfortable and shocking experience, and I’ve never encountered anything like it elsewhere.

I hope the management takes this seriously and addresses the behaviour and professionalism...

We had the most awful meal at this restaurant last night. The mac and cheese was cold and resembled something from a tin, the added bacon was cold and undercooked. Not a sign of the parmesan crisp as outlined on the menu. The fish and chips were supposed to come with homemade tartar and chargrilled lemon and minted mushy peas. There wasn't a hint of of mint in the peas and the top of the photo shows the 'homemade' tartar sauce and 'chargrilled lemon'!!! The chicken burger was cold and dry with no tomato or gherkin in the bun as per the menu. We had to wait over an hour which was fine as we were warned of this. However we didn't expect after an hour to receibe sub standard cold food that wasn't as outlined on the menu. The bill was far from reasonably price do I can only imagine the margin they are making as most if it seemed to come out of a tin.
