George & Dragon — Restaurant in West Oxfordshire

The staff were amazing, very friendly and polite, always smiling and very attentive.

Service was also quick, not waiting too long to order drinks and food. But we were waiting for a bit to receive drinks and as well as starters and mains. Which was okay as we were having a long catch-up with our family. So we didn't mind the wait. But others might be more impatient than us.

Food came out pipping hot. The starters went down like a treat, and two of our party had the dirty fries. Which they thoroughly enjoyed. One party member had the prawns and said it was delicious and the other the H fries.

The mains I was slightly disappointed in the rack of ribs, really lacked of flavour. But once I spread it in BBQ sauce, it was fine. It was very well cooked and a good portion too. Two other party members had the traditional Sunday roast beef and said it was delicious, and my partner had the pie of the day. He said it was okay.

The puddings were a real hit.

The layout is quite interesting: the restaurant is in a separate area from the main pub, giving diners a quieter, more intimate setting while still maintaining the character of a traditional British pub.

There’s outdoor seating both at the back and in front of the venue. While the back garden offers more space, it felt a bit less cozy compared to the small terrace at the front, which had a more inviting and atmospheric vibe—perfect for a relaxed drink or meal on a mild evening.

Great set-up with COVID relaxation to be able to eat outside Chicken Gyros was a huge portion , lots of meat and spicy sauce served on a thick flatbread the size of a small Pizza. The veggie Penang curry and rice tasted delicious but much smaller portion in contrast to the gyros. Seemed slightly on the expensive side, £15 for the gyros and £14.50 for the smaller curry, but haven’t eaten out for a while so maybe normal and if we’d ordered online it would have been 10% cheaper.. there’s a lesson. Would recommend and return, especially for £5.00 cocktails on a Friday night if possible to get in although there is lots of outside space front and back.
