Opted for the roast beef on Sunday evening. Pretty awful, probably the worst roast I’ve had. The roast potatoes were hard and the knife could hardly cut through it. Better utensils would be an idea, guys. They were obviously the result of being put through the deep fryer. The beef, apart from the gristle, was edible, but hardly what I would call flavoursome. The cauliflower cheese was watery and mediocre. The service was good. The atmosphere was loud, with children and dogs running all over the place when trying to eat. On paying the bill, one of the dark haired waitresses asked me to make a second payment, obviously the staff have no clear system to check this kind of error, which just added insult to injury. Professionalism and common courtesy clearly amiss with the staff. Perhaps training would be in order on how to treat clientele. Having made payment of £66.00 for 2 mains and one drink, the waiter asked how our food was, to which I replied, not great. He actually was surprised and was quite vocal about it, which just goes to further demonstrate how unprofessional this establishment is. The staff added the displayed service charge, without even asking if the service warranted it. I’ve been to better places in local villages and towns, and not only was the service and food better, they also asked if it was fine to leave the service charge. This place was much better pre 2020, and the ambience and cuisine was without question, outstanding. The restaurant has been replaced by a standard overpriced pub, flying on the former owners’ reputation. Thanks guys for a pretty shambolic evening! Enter at...
Read moreVery disappointed with our supper last night. My brioche with the ham hock terrine was stale, hard inside and out and inedible. This was brought to the waitress's attention but "oh I'm sorry about that" was not good enough. Calamari served in tiny pans means that they get knocked off the pan. For £30 the rib eye was an 8oz steak which was not the standard that should be expected from a 28 day steak and I would question that it was that aged as there was no marbling on the steak which had a poor grain to it. Again brought to the waitresses attention with similar response. I would have expected at least contact from the manager and a reduction on the bill. The crispy beef salad was very good.
The result is that despite the lovely feel of The Hare we won't be back, I wouldn't risk it. There are so many other nearby fabulous pubs that The Hare should not sit on their laurels. Is there no one overseeing what is coming out of their kitchen or handling this sort of thing? There appeared to be no one on duty for this last night. The saving grace was the smiley waitress who ran after the car with my...
Read moreAfter reading the good reviews and been recommend this pub we thought we would give it a try.
Entering the pub we were greeted by very friendly staff and the service was very good.
My partner ordered the rib eye steak and myself ordered the crispy beef with salad. I enjoyed my meal it was well presented and very tasty. The rib eye according to my partner was cooked perfectly after requesting medium rare however there was very little on the plate, steak and a few chips and a handful of water cress for £34 which was quite a let down if being honest. It would be a nice touch to add a flat mushroom and grilled or cherry tomatoes to the plate or even home made onion rings. My partner is not a greedy person but he was still hungry and really this should not be the case after paying £34
Also a 12.5 % service charge was added to the bill. I do think that it should be the customers choice if they would like to tip for the service and quality of food. Before anyone criticizes me I have worked in hospitality for...
