1 of all we wish to apologise to The Poacher as this was our not a place we had even thought about, until we made a last minute decision, and OH MY what a FANTASTIC decision it was.

Never judge a book by it's cover, well the car park was empty and there was no know else having a meal in the pub at around 3pm on a Friday we thought, this doesn't look good, but hey we here lets at least try and WOW.

The meal was outstanding simple as that. This is a pub where you go for a drink and a something to eat, so don't except the décor to be on par of some 5star place it's a good old fashioned pub, but still with the character your dad, grandparents had come to love.

What very 1st impressed me was on ordering our meal at the till, we were asked about any allergies and tolerances, this is the 1st time we have ever been asked this in all the places we have been.

The menu is not a fancy all singing all dancing colour brochure like you get in most places this is black n white on paper, simple & to the point. They have a great variety of choice to cater from kids, something lite or a full on menu.

The meal from starter to main course was delicious simple as that, hot well cooked just everything was perfect and left the pub stuffed and prices again brilliant.

So next time without hesitation, we will be going directly to The Poacher

You want a place where you have an outstanding meal, be able to chat without music blurring and everyone is warm, polite and smiling.

Empty Car Park, no-one else having a meal.....the people of wigan and beyond don't have a clue what they are...

This place was lovely and the staff were amazing and went above and beyond for us so 10/10 for this. Drinks were good priced and cocktails were fantastic so 10/10. We had the chicken for the starters and omg they were amazing, the chicken moist and not dry and the flavour was amazing so my brother and I were soo looking forward to our main. I order the turkey Sunday lunch large with extra roast potatoes and my brothers ordered the same but with beef. Our order came straight after we finished the starter and unfortunately it wasn't as good as we were expecting. The Brockley was great and still had a good crunch, the carrots were fresh, sweet and taste amazing and the pigs in blanket were great to but unfortunately that's were it stops. The beef my brother had was dry and my turkey was like sliced turkey for sandwiches ( ok I know its not Xmas but maybe change the turkey to pork or chicken if you struggle to get turkey in). The roast potatoes were nice put frozen and had been dipped in oil as that's was all you could taste and was a shame as they looked amazing. The stuffing was ok but dry so maybe add abit off butter to the stuffing mix but unfortunately the yourkshire pudding were terrible so both decided not to order pudding. I would go back but try something different on the menu but not the Sunday roast so we would give...

Went for a bite to eat with family and sat on a table that was reserved from 3.30pm. It was around 1pm. Next thing an ignorant old man decided to put his pint down and glare at me and my baby grandchild. I asked if he was already sat there (he wasn't) and he scowled at me then said it was reserved to which I pointed at the sign that it was from 3.30pm!! He disappeared them came back again and my son asked what the problem was as we only wanted a quick bite to eat. He said it was reserved and if the people arrived early we would have to move to which I said the time of the sign should be changed then. He said the sign belongs to his daughter who is the landlady. He then said even if we were in the middle of eating our meal, we would still have to move!! This is not the first time this cantankerous man has be rude I may add!! Then the barmaid brought him some food and said it was HIS table. Ridiculous! We left due to his terrible attitude and rudeness and I would suggest the landlady and staff attend a customer care course and not.allow her ignorant dad to abuse paying customers!! If a table is reserved after 3.30pm there should NOT be an issue and it's bad manners to join a family at their table in the first place!! Bad attitude all around. You should treat paying customers...

This was my first visit to this establishment. I ordered the meal of steak and ale pie With French fries and vegetables. My meal was presented to me and the contents of the plate was 45% Chips, 45% garden peas, and 10% approx slice of steak and ale plate pie of which 40% was pastry. At a cost of £7.10 the meal was greatly overpriced. I can only comment on the pie and not the rest of the menu. Will I be returning to this establishment in future? I've got to be honest and say no. To say that this venue Is in the centre of one of the largest private housing estates In the UK it really should be a goldmine. Perhaps an urgent change in management is required and better value for money
