The place its self is beautiful, however I visited today with my mum and son. It was £17 to visit the sunflower patch, this consisted of the smallest sunflower patch I had ever seen, it took my 3 year old son approximately 90 seconds to get around it and be bored. There wasn’t an option to visit the windmill and at the end we got a bunch of dead sunflowers (see attached photographs) we did complain to the lady in the tent and she said she doesn’t set the prices.
Unfortunately we left extremely disappointed and it had put us off ever returning because I am unsure how you can charge £7 per adult and £3 per child for not even 1.5 minutes of fun. Huge money making scam but has been marketed extremely well.
If you were looking to visit a sunflower patch that is huge and has a park for the children please consider Crewe green sunflowers (a little further afield). The patch is massive and it only costs £10 per car so if you have a car of 5 people it is £2 each and you get to pick your own sunflowers.
Overall extremely disappointed and I unfortunately will not be recommending this tea room which is a shame because I love to visit small...
Read moreSo disappointed and won't be going again. We are a couple approaching 80 years old. I have very recently undergone treatment for lung cancer and I am not very mobile. We parked the car as it stated no parking. A lovely walk BUT I had no idea how far the walk was and I began to struggle. Husband said wait here and I'll get the car to drop you off. This scared me as I did not want to be left alone in the middle of nowhere. We struggled on,there seemed to be no end to the walk. We began to think that we must have missed a turning somewhere. Eventually a car came along and I waved him down to ask if we were on the right track and how much further we had to walk. He said about another 100 yards. On arriving I noticed plenty of parking room so surely they could accommodate maybe 4 spaces for blue badge holders. Inside was so uncomfortable, I could not get my legs up and under the bench type tables. I had to sit on the corner.Menu was most limited I've ever seen only 4 or maybe 5 choices. I won't go on any more except to say we won't be back Husband had to walk back to the road to get car so that he...
Read moreWhat a lovely place to visit! The food is exceptional and there's plenty of space to sit outside and admire the surrounding area. The number of inside tables are very limited though (enough for approx. 20 people).
Dogs are welcome and they have their own area to have a drink / be tied up. The service is quick and courteous.
To get to it you can park in School Lane and walk about 400m down a public footpath through quite a nice wooded area which is part of Thurstaston Common. School Lane does have a school at the end of it and parking is very limited especially when the pupils are being dropped off or collected. You can walk across the Common having parked elsewhere but this might not be desirable to everyone.
Please check opening times before planning your journey.
A well known, delightful hidden gem!!!
