We contacted to arrange staying in the car park overnight in the campervan if we ate in the restaurant. Arrived Friday late afternoon and were met by friendly staff, we ordered food and very happy with portions, présentation and taste, we returned to our van took the dog for a walk and the views were stunning of the Wirral Peninsula and it was nice and quiet from 2230-2300hrs onwards so we slept like logs, stayed Saturday and brought friends along in their van, again we enjoyed the food, needed a little reminding on about the drinks but hey it was one of their busier nights and it all came good with a little patience and keeping contact with the staff, we stayed close to the end of the night and thanked everyone for their service and off we toddled... and wobbled to bed, again another quiet night and in the morning locals arriving in the car park to go on various walking activities were bright, friendly and courteous to all and why not! Spring is just around the corner, we will use the Cottage Loaf again for meals and stop overs because its a perfect way to enjoy the Wirral and for us to drop our Cockapoo off at the groomers in Upton so we'll be back thank you everyone 😊

Popped here for a midweek meal. The first thing you notice is how pretty the pub looks on the out side. Very "olde worlde" with flowers planted around the outside. Inside is just as cosy and welcoming with the ceiling festooned with fairy lights as was the fireplace. Music was playing quietly in the background but, on no way obtrusive. The staff are great. The lady who served Mum and I was genuinely warm and friendly. Being a chain, I didn't have high hopes on the quality of food.....I was wrong. The prawn and chorizo risotto was lovely as were the onion rings (yeah, strange combo, I know) . The portion size was a bit small for me but I'm rather greedy 😀 Sampled mum's fish and chips, equally as good. It's great to see them offering a great variety of alcohol free drinks too along with plenty of water and glasses to help yourself . Definitely recommend eating here then take a walk around Thurstaston just down the road!

Quite a nice Pub near Thurstaston Beach. It has a large Car Park (including Electric Charging Bays). Inside is quite big, with lots of Tables and has a nice comfortable feeling about it👍 Service is quick and friendly. The Menu has lots of choices, including a Specials Menu too. Food is nice and reasonably priced👍 The Katsu Chicken was good (not quite as good as Wagamama's Chicken Katsu, but still good 🙂). Definitely a good place to call in for a bite to eat after a stroll on the Beach👍

The worst experience EVER! absolute worst Christmas I’ve ever had unfortunately and I’m so so so so sorry I chose this place to celebrate. Never again will I try something new and go out for a meal.

I’m currently sat here now in the Cottage Loaf, myself and my family have waited 3 HOURS!!! 3 bloody HOURS for a roast dinner on Christmas Day. It turns out that one of the ovens broke, which wasn’t communicated to us, or anyone else around us in the restaurant which created tension for all as a whole, I had spoken to other tables and everybody was in the same boat, confused and worried for their Christmas.

At one point we thought that they had ran out of food, or the chef had left.

Upon asking the Shoulder Length Blonde front of house/duty manager (who didn’t want to give me her name for this review) why there was no communication, her response was that she had asked her staff to let us customers know, which unfortunately like most of the dinner service wasn’t completed.

Her tone changed with me as I questioned why she didn’t come as the manager and let us know. Standing at the head of my family’s Christmas dinner she became unprofessional and spoke to me in an argumentative way, I felt embarrassed for her and for myself.

I’m not here on Christmas Day to argue, I’m here to celebrate and I think due to the fact today the Cottage Loaf had short staff, 0 leadership skills & clearly an issue with the kitchen or chef she was taking her anger out on me, and I am not the one.

We watched many families leave and go home as their Christmas Day were also ruined. We decided to stay and try to enjoy what we could, In hignsight I wish we left earlier too.

One lady and her 4 children had to go home at 2.15pm to get pizza from her freezer due to her children being so hungry because the Restaurant requested us all to be seated at 12pm. That story alone is disgusting, especially on Christmas.

Ask yourself what your management did to make her family more comfortable? Nothing.

They couldn’t even hold the door open for her to leave.

You need to do better, you need to communicate better and you need become a more efficient team.

I know for a fact which is REALLY concerning, all the staff working today were under 18 and being led by somebody who I don’t think had peoples best interests at heart (the Blonde lady who refused to give her name)

Due to me questioning management about the wait time and lack of communication I believe she then treated our family different to all of the others, and also made comments to her staff whom also avoided our table.

We (my whole family) watched multiple staff members walk past our table, avoiding any contact with cleaning away dirty dishes or seeing if we would like our drinks replenished. We were the LAST table to be cleared at 4.10pm and we didn’t get our dessert we had paid for.

This was our Christmas Day. And you failed.

I don’t write reviews at all, but Im shocked at the service in Cottage Loaf, it seems like it was an issue for us to be there. Some of my family members didn’t want to walk across the premises because of how uncomfortable the girls had made them feel with their side eyes, one of the girls was caught rolling her eyes as my mum asked for help, the constant standing around gossiping and giggling whilst having their back to our family.

Do I think your staff care at all? No, I unfortunately don’t. Do better, I’ll never return, and I don’t think any family who was trying to enjoy their Christmas today will return either.

Congratulations on failing this year for your...

Just visited as a party of 4 for my partner's birthday, we had pre-booked. First impressions were positive, the waitress took our drinks order quickly but unfortunately things declined rapidly from there. Our food order was incorrect, we had ordered nachos but this was missed off the order, and my nan asked for her starter to come with the main courses which didn't happen. She also received the wrong sauce for her halloumi fries.

The waitress was apologetic about forgetting to order us nachos which we accepted, mistakes can happen. We debated re-ordering the nachos but were advised by the staff to not do this because the mains were already being prepared.

However, the wait between finishing our starters and our mains arriving was 40 minutes, with no explanation given as to this long wait. Due to the long wait we had finished our first round of drinks but did not get checked on by any staff member to see if we wanted to order more. Also, each person had one set of cutlery which we had used for our starters, no new cutlery for our mains was brought to us so we had to take cutlery off tables next to us.

The food was nice enough, nothing exceptional but fine. When we did manage to order a second round of drinks they took that long to arrive that two of our party had already finished our main course so then it was quite pointless that we had drinks.

When our mains were cleared we asked for the bill, it was only at this point that we were asked how the food and service was. We explained that we had found the service poor and it was at that point that the waitress explained that there had been a 30 minute delay on food, due to unexpected guests who were sat outside. I asked why this wasn't communicated to us earlier than when we were paying the bill and the waitress said because we had already ordered by the time this delay had begun. Frankly I found this comment bizarre as we had pre booked and therefore felt that our custom wasn't seen as important as the guests sat outside. I think at this point the waitress should have summoned a supervisor or manager so that they could offer us an apology/a gesture of goodwill eg some money off the bill. We did leave the waitress a tip because she was apologetic for the service we had received.

Unfortunately I don't think we will be returning anytime soon, and the general upkeep of the pub is quite poor eg leaks in...

My husband and I had been here a couple of times after our walk in west kirby. We had sat outside and had a glass of wine and some paté. Seems a nice place so my friend and I went last night for an evening meal. We were told on arrival of a few things that were not on the menu due to a menu change the following day...We both ordered Asian chicken ( I think it was called ). The waiter came back and said the last portion had gone out, I then ordered the seabass and was told this wasn't available . My friend ordered lamb shank, there was no chips or mash, only fries available. I settled on sirloin steak, medium rare...The steak came and was an awful cut, it was very sinewy all the way through. The waiter was very attentive and asked would I like it changed, He said would I like him to bring the steak through on another plate, I said no I'd like you to take my plate please which he did..He came back and said it would be 5 minutes... The meal arrived and the steak looked a bit burnt, I cut into it and it was as dry as a bone. I cut through the middle and it was definitely not medium rare as I'd ordered. Very disappointed 😞. The waiter returned with the sauce and I told him I couldn't eat it, he offered me another steak but by this time my friend had finished her meal so I refused. He apologised and said he would take the meal off the bill...We then had a dessert, a crumble it was with custard, this was okay, it was a bit stodgy and not crumbly...The waiter asked how our dessert was and I said okay, he said okay ? that's what we aim for...He made light of our evening and was quite funny to be honest... There was a quiz on and a gentleman said he'd returned his steak twice as well... Overall food not so good, service was good and atmosphere okay.. I would probably still return for my glass of...
