I had booked for my wife and I to have Christmas lunch at the lawns restaurant , having previously dinned there before the last occasion being October 2024 and found the food OK. At £115 per head I was expecting something a bit over & above the standard but WOW was I disappointed. Worst Christmas Lunch EVER. Upon arrival we were given a glass of champagne which was nice from then on it was all down hill, taken to out table given some bread so hard couldn’t eat it then came out starter ordered Ham hock & chicken Terrine served won ton soup !!!!! didn’t order that, was not even on the menu but let it go it's Christmas after all !! then the main event Christmas lunch was to be free range turkey with trimmings what arrived was two slices of stuffed turkey roll that tasted & looked synthetic, 2 roast potatoes, overcooked, 1 carrot the size of my little finger 1 parsnip even smaller, 2 Brussel sprouts the size of large peas undercooked. It looked & tasted so bad that I didn't finish what was offered.it was not only the quantity of the food provided but the unacceptable condition I did complain but got no feedback. To finish, Christmas pudding, which was good, and the mince pie at the end of the meal served with tea was also good but £115 for Christmas pudding & a mince pie. I think not. I would say that all the front of house staff were good but let down by the cooking side won't be...
Read moreSunday lunch at The Lawns is just a fabulous experience. From the moment you are warmly greeted by staff at the door you feel you are whisked away to a different world where you are treated like, and definitely dine like, royalty. Even though they were busy with two private parties the beautifully decorated restaurant itself was quiet and felt exclusive, the service was attentive but not intrusive, staff have the ability to make diners feel like honoured guests. They are so genuinely friendly and make you feel like they want to make your dining experience very special. They certainly accomplish that. The meal itself was delicious, beautifully presented and gorgeous flavours. It’s very hard to choose as each item on the menu is so tempting..I suppose it just means we will have to come more often so we can work our way through it 😊.
If you want a very special Sunday lunch treat you won’t do any better than this. I left feeling very chilled, like I’d had a mini break in a country house hotel and was very sad to leave. I will look forward to...
Read moreWe have just returned home from Thornton Hall after a fabulous wedding anniversary meal. The service, especially from Carl, was delightful. Carl was so lovely and we enjoyed chatting with him and having a few giggles along the way. His attentiveness was just right. We had champagne, oysters and lobster ravioli for starters, the bisque with the ravioli was divine. Then we both had the roast beef Sunday lunch. The beef was perfectly pink, the Yorkshire was lovely and crisp and the beef jus was deep and rich in flavour, it really pulled the meal together. Thanks to the fabulous chefs. I had the lemon meringue pie for dessert and my husband had a cheese board. We shared of course and both were amazing, the meringue on the pie was delicious. We also had fabulous service from another server, we didn’t catch her name sorry but Carl handed us over to her when his shift ended, which a lovely touch. Highly recommend for a special occasion, it...
