We booked at 2pm for a sunday lunch for 5 of us. we all sat down and had our drinks order taken promptly, I had I Heineken which wasnt the cleanest pint ice ever had but that's by the by.

We waited a further half an hour before one of our party asked the waitress could we order our food, to which she replied "give me one minute" (not rudley). She cam back and said that there would be a half an hour wait on the food and one of our group replied "we booked at two" the waitress stated "that's just what the chef said sorry".

Our order arrived after us having been there for a full hour and wasnt worth the wait. I had ordered the black pudding with pepper sauce to start which stated it was served on a crouton. What arrived was served on deep fried very oily bread. The inky saving grace was that the pepper sauce and black pudding were nice, couldn't eat the "crouton".

The main was some what better. I had chosen the beef which was very nice but again was wrecked by having raw roast potatoes, no colour at all ant the potato was still hard inside. very disappointing!

The good points; as I said the beef was nice and the Yorkshire puddings were good and homemade. the mash was also nice which we ordered as a side.

Overall, having been recommended this place I was very disappointed and will not...

Nice staff, food tasted ok but well overpriced. I had a fish pie that was 2cm thick in a small dish, 3 prawns a bit of white fish. No salmon as advertised on the menu. Mainly just a thin layer of mash! Could have scraped the whole thing into a tea cup. Perhaps an egg cup full of peas on the side. It tasted ok but for ยฃ20 was a complete rip off. This is pub food remember guys..not a fancy restaurant or even a gastro pub. Also the toilets were in need of a thorough clean. Its a shame as the staff on the whole seemed so nice and so helpful and that is the only reason we never complained but wish we had. Perhaps if the chef spent more time in the kitchen, instead of wondering round then the food might improve. Money for old rope springs to mind! We left and had some crisps in the car as we were so hungry! Very disappointed, ยฃ50 out of pocket and starving when we left...

Came here after a stay at Thornton Hall Hotel, fancied some normality from the 4* michelen food we have been eating... what we are used to... pub grub. The food here sounds amazing. Me and my friend ordered 2 burgers, these where made from minced beef as your regular burgers are, only problem was the burgers were undercooked like blood dripping from them, had they been proper steak burgers that would be fine but if you know your food standards you will know under cooked mince is a no go. After complaining the food was corrected and delivered to standard, it was delicious just the compaining let it down. Dont not try this place based on my review but be careful when ordering to make sure food is cooked enough to regulations... unless...

If you are going to go walking around Thornton Hough this pub is a great place to start as it's in the centre of the village just opposite the church. It's handy to get to as the 487 bus from Liverpool stops just outside. It's got a lounge and dining area and in the Summer it's nice to sit in the beer garden. It has a small car park but there's normally parking spaces over the road. Haven't eaten in a while so can't comment on food, but they do usually have a good range of Real ales and beers.

Fantastic little local pub with great landlord and landlady , superb food, lovely real fire ,,car parking , well worth a visit the steak and Ale pie is well recommended, very popular for Sunday dinner , and also popular with Film and TV crews , Comedien Jimmy Carr who co wrote his new film Fackam Hall based on a spoof of Downton Abbey has been filming there also scenes filmed in and around the popular pub, So visit and see this lovely part of the Wirral.

Called in after a walk for some lunch on a Saturday. Friendly pub with a gorgeous beer garden. Food was delicious, I had the gammon which was classic pub food, tasty and filling. My wife had a sandwich which she really enjoyed, again a 'hearty' portion which was just what she was after, but not overwhelmingly big. All fresh and reasonably priced, hadn't visited before but we will do again.
