My original review is below but I've been back again today and once again the Refreshment Rooms did not disappoint! The occasion was for me to treat my Mum and Dad to a joint celebration 70th birthday meal and I had asked when I reserved the table if they could possibly put a candle in the dessert when it came out. I have been several times since my original review but my Mum and Dad have not. Given all the recent weather we were so incredibly lucky that the sun shone... really showing the place off it it's best. Mum has a smaller appetite so she was really pleased that they had the over 60s smaller plates which is one of the reasons why I booked to eat here. The food was as delicious as always and the lovely staff not only brought a candle in the dessert but they also sang happy birthday as well! Incredible service and it's a new place for my Mum and Dad to add to their list of places to stop off for a meal! Original review: I have heard many of my friends rave about the Refreshment Rooms and so I had high expectations and hoped I wasn’t expecting too much. I booked a meal for three people at 2pm today (Sunday) and at the time of booking I almost jokingly asked if they could possibly put a candle in the birthday girl’s dessert. As it turned out, everything surpassed my expectations. Inside was bigger than I expected (as I had only seen pictures of the outside). The menu was surprisingly diverse and catered for a wide variety of tastes. In addition there was also an exciting specials menu. All three of us opted for the roast dinner (I had the pink beef, birthday girl had lamb and my other friend had “three meats” which was beef, lamb and pork). Everything on the plate was cooked to perfection. The beef was pink, the roasties were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, the green vegetables (broccoli and mangetout) tasted like they were steam cooked, the gravy was heavenly and my friend, who had the pork, had crackling as well. Sides were horseradish for the beef, mint sauce for the lamb and pineapple salsa for the pork. The portions were substantial. To finish, my friends had the individual Mixed Berry & Pimms Trifle and the Toblerone Whipped Cream Pavlova. I do not usually order dessert as I tend to find sweet menus repetitive and dull but I actually found it difficult to decide between a number of unique desserts that I haven’t seen before. I opted for the Chef’s Jaffa Cake Creme BrulĂ©e and it was absolutely delicious. My friend’s trifle came complete with birthday candle which was just lovely! The birthday girl drank Pinot Grigio Rosato and I was incredibly impressed that there were a number of alcohol free options and not just the blandest bottles that are usually on offer. Two of us had the Brewdog Punk Alcohol Free (which I think is a superior AF beer) and it was heartening to see decent alcohol free wines on the menu as well. We finished with coffee and mint chocolate. The servers were very friendly and we felt like we were given lots of time. Despite how incredibly busy it was throughout, the wait staff were really attentive to us. The ‘vibe’ of the whole pub was cool and laid back. The background music was just that, background music which was perfect and allowed for conversation. As we left it was such lovely weather that we decided to have one more drink outside where we saw a rainbow as we looked out over the waterfront. A perfect Sunday and a perfect birthday meal.

Perfect lunch for a delayed Father's day! TU- worth every penny! There again a few more times. We never take photos because we are too busy tucking in! Food is great here. This time we had scouse, and steak pies, lemon trifle, vegan tart, ice cream, sticky toffee pudding, pavlova. All excellent. Tu once again. A family and friends favourite . The dog was welcomed into to "dog room " and was brought a bowl of water! Combined with a walk along Rock Ferry promenade and a walk through historic Rock Park we enjoyed a lovely day. Thank youxx November 2023 Had cocacola sticky ribs- superb but I did need my son to finish them for me. A very generous portion. Best onion rings in Merseyside! Snickers eton mess was great. TU once again for a very enjoyable experience with top class food and attentive friendly service. Those with me enjoyed vg fish and chips and lasagna. Thankyou so much😍 Latest trip on January 15th 2025 clutching our voucher for one free main given to us before Christmas. Always feel a bit awkward with free main course vouchers but there was no problem handing it in when paying the bill. This time we both enjoyed the fantastic lasagne- as good as any top notch Italian ! Served with a marvellous leaf salad and focaccia garlic bread. We also ordered a portion of the best onion rings we've ever tasted. All freshly cooked For afters we couldn't resist the mandarin trifle and toblerone Pavlova! TU very much for a fantastic meal. See you next timexxđŸ€ŁđŸ„°

So we ate at the Refreshment rooms today for the Second time and the standards of food, Service, Ambience, Great pint are still top draw. Me and my Fiancee live in Manchester but my in-laws live in Eastham so we travelled over today for a lovely meal at the Refreshment Rooms and we were warmly greeted by a member of staff who seated us at our table as we had reserved a table for Four of us. Me and my Father in-law had a pint of Guinness and my Fiancee and Mother in-law had bottled water, Fantastic pint of Guinness, Creamy, Smooth. For food my Mrs opted for Salmon Thermodore with greens, Which she absolutely loved, Mother in-law went for a lovely bowl of Scouse with Red cabbage and crusty bread which she really, Really enjoyed, Me and my father in-law opted for Beer battered Fish and Chunky chips with mushy peas, Which was without a doubt the best Fish and Chips I had ever eaten. Me and the Father in-law then had another Guinness(It would of been rude not to), My father in-law then opted for Ice cream for Dessert which came with a Flake and Some strawberries, Which again he devoured with ease. Service was fantastic, Polite and friendly staff, Great setting on the River Mersey, Lovely interior, Fantastic food, Fantastic service, Fantastic setting, Free Parking and a fantastic pint etc. We highly, highly recommend The Refreshment Rooms. 5☆

04/01/24, our first visit to The Rooms, we'd heard good things about them so decided to check it out. we were not disappointed.

first things first; prices! this place is not cheap! and by that i mean; if you want a gastropub meal or a ÂŁ7.99 carvery, being bumped by other patrons as they walk past, and time limit on the table; this is not your place. if, on the other hand; you want excellent, fresh, cooked to order, with good portion sizes, space between the tables and an first class service team; then i highly recommend you give The Rooms a go.

Price wise, the value is outstanding! starters from ÂŁ7.50, mains from ÂŁ15.00-ÂŁ30.00 and sweets from ÂŁ7.50. we had a table for 4, all adults, we all had a starter and main. we didn't have pud but that was because we were al stuffed!! 8 pints of IPA 2 pints of lemonade and 2 bottled cokes. sides on the main too and the bill came to ÂŁ160. now that's not bad at all!! given the quality of the food, location and ambiance i call that a bargain.

The Rooms are really well laid out, with room to swing a cat, they cater for larger parties too judging by some of the tables laid out. the staff did mention that booking was essential and they very rarely have space for walk ins. again judging by the amount of full tables i would definitely book, and, well in advance too if you can. (we're booked in for Feb already)

Now, the downside(s)...........zero!! as far as the restaurant, food and staff are concerned 11/10 for all the above. however, LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION !! LOL .. any food business that is out of the way and off the beaten track have to work especially hard because; if they're not up to high standard they're not going to get repeat covers or reviews. The Rooms are a great example of this. we're local and we still had trouble finding them, lol, despite leaving home with time to spare we were still a few minutes late arriving. i wish i had taken a drive down there before just to find them. having said that, been there once, now we know. Parking!! no onsite parking, all road side and its a bit limited.

we...
