Visited today for a family Christmas meal. We had pre-booked the table for 1pm. It was really busy as we arrived & our table was a bit too close to the one behind, so much so, that we had to shift ours a foot or two to make it easier to sit comfortably. We waited around 35 minutes for our starters & had to politely remind the staff we had not had them. Mum & sister in law had ordered vegetable soup to start, but it looked nothing like you would expect it to look. My sister in law questioned it with a member of staff, who assured her that it was definitely vegetable soup š¤ It looked to me like tomato soup that had been made in a blender. It was a deep red shade, rather thick & there were no visible veg in the dish. I tasted Mum's & it was definitely a spicy tomato soup.I had pre-ordered the chicken breast, as had Mum. It was really disappointing to see the small meal on the large plate. A large breast of chicken with some very small cubed potatoes & two pieces of broccoli on top. My brother, his wife & my husband had ordered the carvery & came back with plates piled high with veg etc. I asked a staff member if my meal was complete as it looked so pathetic with no extras. I was told i could go to the carvery for extras, though it's not the norm apparently. The chicken was tasty, but if you're expecting a decent sized portion go for the carvery instead. I had trifle to finish - a decent portion, but utterly bland if i am honest. The menu states the trifle comes with a surprise on top??? Not sure what it was, but mine was topped with cream. As far as I'm aware, that's the norm. We waited an eternity for someone to take our drinks order when we were seated, but in fairness to the staff, there were not enough of them to cope with the vast number of diners & that's down to mis-management. I forgot to mention my starter of creamy mushrooms which were delicious & the best part of my meal. Overall our experience today was not great. I have had better meals in there in the past & haven't waited an eternity...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve only given a rating of three stars because although the food is fantastic and deserves 5 stars, it is let down by the toilet facilities ( gents ) I suffer from IBS and quite often usually immediately after a meal, I need to use the toilet facilities. When I entered the gents toilet, I was disappointed to find that the toilet door had a big gap both top and bottom where it has been cut down. This I feel is a gross invasion of privacy. When I asked my girlfriend if the ladies was the same, she said no there was a full sized door on the toilet cubicle. For this reason, Iām not planning to return any time soon and if I find any other pubs with a cut down door Iāll be giving them a wide berth. Iām sure that if you did the same to the ladies youād get a load of complaints. I donāt expect to get any sort of response from the proprietors because they only seem to reply to the reviews that are favourable to them and wonāt even try to address any complaints from customers. They obviously donāt care as long as the money keeps coming in from the Customers who donāt seem to mind the invasion of privacy issue that I raised. Whatās next? cctv in the toilet cubicle? How much does a toilet door cost for godās sake? Iām completely incensed by all this and Iām not going to let it go until something is done about it. The responsibility lies with you as the owner, not your staff. If someone has a complaint they go to the employer not the employee which I have done. Maybe you should just hand ownership over to your staff if youāre not capable of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTried this place today for a carvery as i have seen the good reviews other weeks, I'm sorry to say I was very disappointed and so was my mum who was with me, seated in a little corner away from everything against a wall, had a carvery there was no chicken so went for the beef which was not to bad but a bit chewy, the cabbage was rock hard barely cooked you don't get to choose your roast I was given 3 which only one was edible, I like well done roasties but these tasted of actually burnt so could only eat one, the mash was nice but the mushy peas were more like soup instead of peas, the carrot and swede was in big chunks which were hard, I barely touched my dinner neither did my mum, I have to also say the service was pretty poor but I think that was down to maybe were we were seated, 40 minutes later a young girl came to eventually take the plates so we explained we did not enjoy the dinner at all and she just looked at us timid and walked off, didn't really have the time to wait for pudding as things had taken so long and the next tabkes had taken over 40 mins for there puddings and they had to go and ask were they were, so we asked for the bill to be charged for 2 courses when we only had one , at no point were we told this when we were seated, so we ordered puddings we didn't really want as we'd had to pay for them, so upon paying the bill no apology we didn't enjoy the dinner nothing, I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in the saughall in the...
