"Table for one?" "Yes, certainly sir." and I was shown to a great table, overlooking the restaurant. House red? It was perfectly acceptable. Menu: good selection. Popadoms fine. Onion Bhajis were lovely, soft in the middle, crisp on the outside. Then the tandoori mixed grill. Hmmm. This is where things started to disappoint. I love the sizzle of a tandoori, and often have them. But 'leg' of chicken was burnt black, with the worst black bits sliced off. I pointed to the chicken and the waiter immediately removed it and told me they would do another one. Fair enough. These things happen, though I've not had that happen before. Too hot an oven, I thought, with a less experienced chef? I started to eat slowly, willing the replacement to come in the promised 'just a few minutes'. Then the last piece of chicken on the dish. I cut it open and it was significantly under-cooked (jelly) inside. Too hot an oven, I thought again. I brought it to the attention of the waiter, who quickly removed my plate with an apology, just as the long-lost chicken arrived. He offered to put it in a takeaway box for me to take home. I accepted. He told me that he had notified the owner (on reception) about the undercooked meat. I asked for the bill and went to pay. Now, I'm a good payer. I expect to pay well for a well prepared tasty meal, but not when the food is poorly cooked and the waiters clearly agreed. So I was surprised when the man at the cash gave me the bill. Full price. I reminded him of the two errors. He offered me two pounds off. I was a little shocked. I went through the bill highlighting the good things and said I was happy to pay for them, but was not happy about the burnt and undercooked chicken. I asked to see the owner. Offhand, resentful, "Well that's how we cook it here", and finally "Ok, so what do you want to pay then?" No apology, no "I'm so sorry sir, Please accept the wine with our compliments." I asked him if he wanted my to take or leave the 'take-away' box. He said "Leave it." I did, and left. The two stars are for the house wine...
Read moreFood served at Anaz Indian restaurant had good flavours.
Anaz restaurant table service, attended to by a solitary waiter who worked very hard and was very pleasant throughout our meal, was good.
Unfortunately the Anaz restaurant front of house manager was aloof/patronising in his manner, and thought it humourous when challenged regarding prices charged for drinks.
In my opinion excessive prices being charged for carbonated and bottled drinks in today's world is bad form and should be banished to the past as bad practice by restaurants.
The Cobra draft beer served in Anaz restaurant was flat, had little or no taste, and even less alcoholic effect???
Being charged £6.95 for a solitary Kingfisher bottled beer when alternative beers (Kingfisher 3 X 330 ml bottled beer is £5) is readily available at Tesco!!! Or £2 per bottle in ASDA!!!
Given Tesco and Asda are making a profit on those prices, it poses the question what is the mark up customers are being charged at £6.95 per bottle at Anaz restaurant?
It would be refreshing if the proprietor of Anaz restaurant declared the mark up on all drinks in their menu, and in any reply to this review.
Being what I believe to have been overcharged for alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages in the quiet low key Anaz restaurant on the outskirts of Worthing is very disappointing.
Especially when bottled beers and carbonated drinks served, are readily available in supermarkets and shops at circa one third of the price charged in Anaz restaurant. Unfortunately on this visit our evening meal was spoiled by the cost of the drinks.
Perhaps the so called complimentary Irish liqueur should be removed, replaced by a simple 10% mark up on all bottled and carbonated drinks served in the restaurant.
We won't be returning to Anaz restaurant...
Read moreWhat a shame!!! Been using anaz for years now for both takeaways and nights out and never had a problem, always 5 stars. BUT had a takeaway tonight for valentines and it was disgusting! My wife's chicken was hard and rubbery and mine was tasteless. On top of this they forgot the naan and mango chutney/onion salad. Even after ringing up to get the naan, mango chutney and onion salad re delivered, they forgot the onion salad again (naan was stone cold but curry was on the bin by then) , But I was very much looking forward to having my poppadoms but without the onion what's the point???? By this time I was fuming so rang again and just got a very rude response saying how busy they were and no one else has complained. Sadly then, after years of praising Anaz to everyone and being a very loyal customer we will be...
