Dirty looks from barmaid that was drinking and smoking outside before we walked in, was the coldest service ever was ignored for 15 minutes as she was serving the other bardtstaff when it was quiet. then when it came to us being served after sticking her finger up at us saying "just a sec" answered phone which I have no problem with, no apology, didn't seem like she even cared about the service, rolling eyes, and smacking the drinks on the bar, held the complaint in as it would have been sorted better by a dead person, disgusting attitude, think her "guy friend" appologised for being served before me, had nothing but even more attitude off her after he spoke to me , even the people that were drinking on shift tallyed the price of the round of drinks in his head, for 4 pints and a single jack daniels fire and lemonade £20 (how hard is it to use a till) , said that's impossible and I hate to complain but he was so rude and forceful. Ridiculous service. Employed a bunch of clowns. Never again, the worst "pub" I have ever been. I don't like to leave feed back but this was disgusting attitude by "managers on shift". Not friendly at all. Could even see that I was underpoured. Laughing stock of worthing. Alot better service in...
Read moreI really hope it's just early teething troubles but the new management have wrecked what was once a thriving pub. The "roast" I had was dumped on my table virtually five minutes after ordering (never a good a sign!) and was actually boiled to death and left the whole plate swimming in water. Terrible! The food menu itself had been cut right back and only consisted of "roasts" and puddings which on my 2nd Sunday visit wasn't much use on a scorching hot day when all I wanted was a Ploughman's. So we all skipped to the Istanbul cafe next door instead. The whisky collection is also completely gone. A quick look on the web says the old management left in January 2014 and the new team haven't even bothered to obtain details of the pubs website which like the food tasted so far sounds very amateurish. So to the new management I would say either sort things out and quickly or move on as the rate you're going this place will be going back to being the smelly old flea pit pub called Strollers...
Read moreI moved to Worthing about a year and a half ago, and live close by this pub - which, after just one visit, I decided was going to be my local.
Every time I've been to the Charles Dickens it has been a fantastic experience - even if just for a drink. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is perfect.
The food is also exquisite, both in terms of taste and presentation - I think each meal I've eaten there has been more delicious than the last.
More people should venture out to the west-end of Worthing to this awesome pub - it really is a hidden gem! They also allow dogs, which is perfect for after you've walked the dog on the beach and are feeling a bit peckish!
I really would recommend this pub to anyone, as it's up there with my favourite...
