Possibly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. OK, it was a Saturday night and busy but the standard of service was just awful.
The restaurant was full, with extra chairs around the booths to try and accommodate everyone. It left no room. One of our party was constantly being knocked by staff as they passed. It was chaotic.
Ordering. The chap taking the order was literally barking at us. "You. What do you want?". Honestly, the closest I can liken it to was a McDonald's drive thru.
Service. 30 mins wait for the drinks to arrive (3 beers and a bottle of wine). They had simply been forgotten about in the chaos.
Next up, starters. Mine simply never arrived. By the time I got someone's attention and it was cooked, the rest of our party had finished theirs.
Main dishes; and more missing plates. This time no vegetable curry to accompany the biryani. Another 10 minute for that to arrive.
The actual service at the table was terrible. Because it was so busy, staff were reaching over people and plates were literally thrown on to the table. I'm not kidding here. Dishes were not placed down carefully...they were dropped and thrown.
Food. Average. Could have forgiven the poor experience if the food had been off the charts. It wasn't.
No way the Tandoori chicken had been marinated for 24hrs. It was dunked in sauce and grilled to order.
Lamb Palak. Lacking in any kind of flavour. 5 small pieces of meat.
Rice. Like warm at best
Rasme kebab. Flavour ok, but accompanied by an oily flavoured fried egg and limp salad.
It's great that a local business is busy, but not when it means the service descends into chaos and general apathy for the customer. No smiles, no welcomes, no apologies for missing orders. Just a general feeling of being in a fast food joint with food...
Read moreWe have come here a few times for Christmas Day now and have been disappointed every time with the service but at the previous price of £25 couldn’t complain. This year the price went up from £25 per head to £40 so we thought we might be in for a better experience but sadly not. We were rushed to order, we had barely sat down before they pushed us to start ordering, clearly rushing us to get the next table in. The whole experience was very rushed, no teas coffees of deserts offered at the end, just the bill. My 8 year old daughter doesn’t eat curry and just wanted chicken and chips, however I was still charged £30 for this! I understand that she was taking up a seat but on a table of 8 adults, you would think they may have offered some gesture on Christmas Day. We had one other child on the table who did eat curry so we were happy to pay this, but £30 for 4 chicken nuggets and some chips is ridiculous, even on Christmas Day. I did raise this when ordering to which the manager said he would see what he could do, he didn’t offer her a starter or the other child a starter or side with their meal so I assumed he was going to provide some discount, but the bill came and we were still charged the full £30 per child. At this point we just wanted to leave I couldn’t be bothered to argue. All in all curry is pretty good, you can find as good in other restaurants though, service awful and now they have almost doubled their prices for Christmas, I’d rather go elsewhere and get an actual roast for about £10 a head more or another curry house which will be...
Read moreMyself, wife and nan regularly go to the Mahaan for lunch because the food is always very nice and feels authentic. It’s the reason we come back. This time was no different however the service we had wasn’t great and made the experience non-enjoyable.
We arrived at 1255 for the lunch service, the way we were greeted wasn’t inviting, the impression wasnt very welcoming. Along with that, don’t like that one of the staff was very casual wearing shorts and flip flops. When we were shown to the table, the first thing the waiter said to us very abruptly was ‘we close at 2pm’. Immediately this made us feel like we were going to be made to rush thru our lunch.
As always I wanted to order a tandoori mixed grill, when I attempted to order I was given push back by the waiter saying it takes to long to cook, even though there was an hour left till closed. When I questioned this, I was given a lame answer about the clay oven. This has never happened to me before. Wasnt happy with the response.
The food is always very consistent and great, however the waiting staff were poor and really made us feel we were an inconvenience. Shame as we always go to the Mahaan but am put off going for a while.
It feels like the team are not happy during the 2 hour lunch window, which adds to the not so pleasant experience. I hope this can...
