I am a regular at The Pillar of Salt and I have always enjoyed coming here. I think the world of the staff members, expecially 2 in particular. One being Claire, and the other being Ashley. As far as I am aware, Ashley is the youngest bar staff member however from my eyes, puts in the most amount of work ethic as I know she is still in education at the time being. I have recently heard from another customer that I am in contact with that she has now left. everytime I came into the pillar I was greeted by lovely Ashley who instantly put a smile onto my face. if not putting a smile on customers faces, she was running food, doing glasses helping customers feel welcome and etc. moving on, Claire is an absolute superstar and never fails to put a big smile on my face. Claires work is outstanding and in my eyes should be the one running the place completely. The manager is never around and never shows his face although the chef who has 2 teeth wants to leave the kitchen every second he can. I find this highly unprofessional and a slight bit uncomfortable as I think I speak for everyone when I say I do not want the person cooking my food, to be the one also runnning around touching dogs and collecting glasses. all the food is microwaved as Tyler gladly told me and I have only eaten 3 times here. the first time I ate here I had some sort of burger. this came out burnt and horrible. the second and third time I ate here was when I came with my family and Ashley was on the bar as well as serving us our food. as the chef decided to leave, this left Ashley to provide us with our deserts and I can honestly say that was the only good thing about those visits I had. since then I have only came in for drinking. Claire and Ashley are the only people who keep this place afloat so therefore I send the best of luck to Claire as it is now down to...
Read moreHaven't been here in a long time and perhaps my expectations were a little high. We ordered a drink at the bar after being told we couldn't order at the bar because nobody came to us. I believe this to be because there was an issue outside with other customers - I appreciate this happens and was okay with this at the time. Proceeded to have one of our drinks poured and then the guy behind the bar walked away from it and it sat there for a good 10-15mins. We asked the girl who was bar staff and she assured us our drinks were coming "that there was an issue outside" Upon looking out the window, the member of bar staff who was dealing with the 'issue' was actually hugging one of the customers outside. Eventually our drinks came. Quite flat by this point! When 'last orders' bell was rang we headed to the bar to order and were told they'd been shut out of the till and couldn't take an order from us?! Surely this happens after the second ringing of the last orders bell? As we were being hurried - several times - to leave, I noticed one of the other customers still inside playfully grabbing the female bar staff member from behind and there were some inappropriate gestures. If this was her boyfriend then fair enough but it should be done away from her being the face of the business! Very unprofessional service...
Read moreBig in size with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options, and chilled vibes. Where the customer service is lacking, the menu makes up.
The menu offers all the usual British style pub classics of burgers, pies and typical sides, but also a few round-the-world options like Indian, Italian and Mexican food. Vegan food options are great on the menu, for example the Moving Mountains Plant Based burger is fab. As is the vegan mushroom pie with mash and mushy peas. The option to upgrade from fries to curly fries is super, also to be able to add onion rings and beans. The food is affordable, being able to have a true feast for under £20. Special shout out too for having literally every condiment to offer!
Drinks options and prices as great too, with a wide range of ciders, beers and spirits beyond the bog standard too. For example, Dead Mans Fingers Coffee Rum and Red Stag Black Cherry Ice Cold! It’s definitely a nice place to go with friends and explore new bottles.
The staff need more support I think, as it’s often one person running between all the people at the bar as well as delivering food to the tables. So come here with patience and understanding, and then you’ll have...
