Read moreI have always enjoyed going to the dog and do go there a fair few times especially in the summer. But here is today's review. My partner and I arrived and found a table quite quickly. It had a bit gravy on nothing massive so I asked the girl with blondish hair in pony tail if she would wipe it. She didn't appear to be to happy about this. However, she promptly cleaned it and asked if we would like a drink and we said 1 coke and 1 water. The waitress with the brown hair and glasses young girl took our order was friendly and made us feel welcome. Food arrived in good time was tasty nice burger chips and onion rings were delicious. So when we finished we asked for the bill. It came and i noticed it was 2.90 for the coke. I questioned the young waitress as that seemed excessive for one coke. She then explained they did a regular coke and a free refil coke. And I got what I ordered. So I explained to the young lady at no time was I told they did two different sizes, neither was I told that it was a refil. I was just given the coke. I complained and I said if they offer two different prices/ or ways of having coke why did the other lady not offer me the choice or indeed explain that the one " she had decided for me" was a refil. I made it clear I was not happy. She did apologise. I was annoyed with this because there is no information about the two sized cokes on the table. The waitress did not explain to me there was so I was duped into paying 2.90 for a refil I knew absolutely nothing about. I did say to the waitress these things need to be mentioned so the " customer" can make an informed choice. On a good note she was a lovely waitress and the food was great. The incident won't stop me visting again but...
Read moreI cannot praise this establishment enough, last night was our fourth visit, (although i used to use this pub frequently in the 80’s), as always we were greeted straight away by a member of staff and shown to our table immediately, having booked two days prior. We ordered drinks from a fabulous selection of ales, lagers, wines and spirits. We chose a large coke for the designated driver, pint of cider and two pints of an American IPA I’m very sorry as I did not take their names, but there were 3 ladies on last night between 7.30 and 11.00 as we stopped till the end. All 3 of the staff went above and beyond in our opinion to make sure that our time there was a memorable one. I was going to have a pint of San Miguel as I dont like real ale, the waitress asked if i liked IPA which I do but did not see it when I walked in, So several pints later, I’m hooked, they had run out of steaks and mixed grills, but recommended to me steak and ale pie, for the love of god and all the saints, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey, what arrived on my plate was a plethora of forbidden wonders. The description on the menu, does this no justice, just a little teaser of what will arrive. Mouth watering vegetables, creamy mash potato, glazed carrot that were to die for and a pie fit for a king, oozing with succulent steak with a rich ale gravy encased in perfect crusty pie, but OH MY GOD, the best was yet to come, she also recommended to accompany this BEEF DRIPPING GRAVY, I had to go to St Ambrose church this morning for confession to which my penance was 4 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and to sweep the church car park with a toothbrush....
