I have been here a couple of times in the last month & was very impressed with food service & covid cleanliness. However I booked a table for today on line for myself & my Uncle. On arrival it said to wait to be seated however then found we had to queue at the bar. Our table was not ready so it was cleared & wiped down for us. We then were told we had to come up & order at the bar. Perhaps it was due to Covid restrictions before that the last twice we were waited on even in the garden. We also had to get our own cutlery & sauces etc. Then we waited 45 minutes for our food after ordering. The food was good apart from some chips were still a bit hard so my Uncle who is 88 left some. He was not impressed with tables not being cleaned as people were coming in & taking seats & clearing the tables off themselved! It was not good as my Uncle has taken me before to The Holt Fleet where service & food have always been excellent. I felt that more staff were needed today as quite busy inside & out. The other disappointment was No Gammon which was my Uncle's choice & always is! Will think twice now before visiting again. Nearly booked at The Taphouse Harlebury which was also very good on last visit. So it was a bit of a disappointment today after my...
Read moreCalled in here tonight, Saturday, on the way home from Merryhill. It looks nice from the outside, and the interior now mostly nice too. We ordered a pair of mixed grills, and I had a pint of a local ale, Town Crier. The beer was very nice, well kept and a good pint. The landlord was friendly, and I asked his advice about the next drink, and he gave me a try of both, and I agreed with his thoughts and went for the Peaky Blinder, as being tangy and thirst quenching. Our grills arrived - yes, it did take a while, but there appeared to be only the landlord and a lass serving and clearing/waiting etc. The food came, and it was decent fayre. Hot, and freshly cooked - our steaks were as requested, rare for me and well done for hubby, not always easy to achieve rare in a small steak! The chips were golden and crispy, and all in all we were perfectly happy. Afterwards we decided to have a pudding - hubby went for the chocolate explosion, and I had apple pie and custard. Again, both perfectly tasty, and we were happy. All in all it was a nice evening, with friendly staff and decent food. We are on holiday here so may never pass by again, but if we do, we will call...
Read moreWe had booked a table for half 7 for a birthday meal for 8 people.
Waited an hour for starters which were very basic, frozen food just cook and tinned soup. Every time we asked about food we were told it will be just a minute or it's ready now but still we sat waiting.
Then another hour for inedible mains 3 came out - dried out hunters chicken that looked like it had spent the 2 hours wait being kept warm, the sauce had evaporated, and the bacon dried to a crisp - a curry with a fly in the rice - and another curry which was in a hot dish but stone cold. Needless to say we told them not to bother with the rest. When we went to the bar for a refund there were 2 other parties also waiting for refunds. We left at half 9 to go and buy a takeaway.
It looked to be just 2 staff trying to man the bar, cook, serve food and clear the tables a recipe for disaster!
Such a shame the building has been done up beautifully (excluding the toilets), and has...
