We discovered this hidden gem about 2 years ago (maybe more) when I was randomly searching Google for fish restaurants). It’s in the middle of an industrial estate and when you turn into it you think your satnav has borked - but it hasn’t. We phoned on spec to see if they had a table and the rest as they say is history. Since then, we’ve taken numerous friends here and like us they have fallen in love with the Quayside. There are not many fish restaurants in the midlands and certainly none that I can name where they source their fish direct from the fishermen in Cornwall. The restaurant opens from Wednesday to Saturday and when they run out they run out. No diving into the freezer or calling the local cash and carry for more stock. Also if you book for 1pm and someone else has booked for 12:30 they get to choose from the menu (which is written on blackboards) first. Which is only fair. The price of the fish reflects what they have paid for it so sometimes dishes might be more expensive than other times. Today, I had oysters and octopus - and it was a first for me on both dishes. Amazing.. my friends (who had never been before) had monkfish in miso and the skillet of scallops (the biggest juiciest you’ve ever seen), mussels and crevettes cooked in hot garlic and butter. My other half the lemon sole. We were there for 3 hours, we were not rushed, the service as ever excellent and the diners all around us were all looking over their shoulders as to what everyone else in the restaurant had ordered (as did we). As my friend said - she could have ordered everything on the menu. If you want a really good meal, in a lovely setting, by Stourport Marina this hidden gem is for you. If you are expecting the kind of food M&B serve then don’t go. Please note you do need to book in advance now as they are always fully booked unless you go on a lunch time. This is by far my favourite midlands restaurant and we travelled for over an hour to get there. It was...
Read moreA fantastic selection of high quality seafood, great service and fair prices. We visited the Quayside on a Saturday afternoon as a group of 7 and we was seated straight away to our reserved table. (Side note - highly recommend booking as walk ins were turned away)
The menus are written on a chalk board as you walk in and they definitely seem to change regularly. There is a huge selection of fish options at fair prices considering it is fresh fish. Other than fish there are several options to choose from and definitely something for everyone. The lady who served us was extremely knowledgeable, and straight away took the time to explain the entire fish menu to us, giving us an insight into what comes with the meals, what is recommended and also detailed when the fresh fish comes in. Fish arrives on a Thursday FYI.
Everything that we had was delicious, this includes pollock, mussels, crab linguine, risotto, beef burger. The portions were very generous and no one left hungry!
Only downside is we did wait well over an hour before ordering desserts and we did have to flag someone down for this, but this in no way spoiled the evening. Also it would have been nice if the brownie was served warm.
Finally it is worth mentioning there is only one chef, and he personally comes out after 10mins of serving the food and asks how it is, this is a lovely personal touch and you could see he genuinely cared and wanted to ensure his customers were enjoying the food he had just cooked. He also brought out a large spider crab to show some customer and it was nice that he took the time to tell us a bit about it and explained how the current crabbing season compared to previous years.
Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area, not to be missed and will need to be booked in advance. Thursday or Friday would be best time to visit as that is when they will have the most choice as lots will sell out over...
Read moreThis is the 2nd time that I've been here with my family, and the second time that we have had an absolutely incredible meal.
The seafood is brought up fresh from New Quay, and is a bit on the pricier side, however it is FULLY WORTH a visit as the food is amazing, some of the best seafood I have ever had in the UK.
To start with they have a wonderful complimentary salad, filled with the most delicious things like beans, red cabbage and other delicious veg that is so refreshing and makes you hungry for your mains!
I have had the bouillebase twice now, and each time it's been amazing, chock full of prawns, fish and mussels. My Fiancé had the Mussels, Scallops and Crevettes last time and the salt and pepper battered crevettes this time and they were delicious! Amazing food each time we visit.
The atmosphere is so cozy, with it being nice and warm, the lighting is so nice and there's always a friendly buzz of chatter throughout.
The staff are absolutely wonderful, one of a kind. They are attentive and kind and great to chat with if we get the chance! They even remembered that we had been before, despite there having been so many people that have visited.
10/10 i recommend the Quayside as it is a...
