First, I never write Google reviews, but this time I had to. Yesterday, immediately following the scattering of my father's ashes in Baker Hill, 25 family and friends headed to Abbeville, looking for a place to have a meal and share a few more minutes of family time before returning to our homes 100-200 miles away. What we found was the amazingly delightful town of Abbeville, and the cutest restaurant in an old drug store, Huggin' Molly's. From the moment we flooded the doorway, the friendly staff went to work finding locations where we could be seated as close together as possible. Our waitress went to work with what can only be called perfect service. (My niece who manages a restraunt said so.) She delivered our drinks in record time and refills before being asked. Our orders also appeared earlier than expected and shockingly she seemed to remember who ordered what without a cheat sheet on her tray. Five stars for the waitress.
When reviewing the food, again FIVE STARS for the kitchen. At my table we had a club sandwich, which my husband always orders, and he claimed it the best he can remember having. My brother, son and I had Make Your Own Burgers, each of us choosing different ingredients. All of our burgers arrrived warm, and juicy with delicious flavor. One son chose a pimento cheese burger topped with an egg and the egg was perfectly cooked. The other son had a french dip that he said had delicious beef and the au jus was tasty and warm. The kids at the table had mac-n-cheese that was creamy, cheesy with pasta that wasn't dry or overcooked as you often find on other restaurants kid's menu. They also had potato chips which turned out to be HOMEMADE chips, same with the onion rings and french fries, and each were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My sister-in-law's grilled chicken wrap was reported to have flavorful, moist chicken with a soft wrap.
And now we get to the best part, a real soda fountain. Members of the family got chocolate malts, chocolate sodas, root beer float, and bowls and cones of ice cream. Things got very quiet at our tables and then all you heard were moans and exclamations of "omg, how delicious". I got a chocolate soda which I hadn't seen on a menu in decades.
I urge all to journey over to Abbeville and try out Huggin' Molly's. My family is already talking about a day trip to eat there again, and check out the cute town.
Thank you, Huggin' Molly's for providing the perfect...
Read moreThis is the second, and last, time that I will be eating here. I'd like to start off by saying that yes, I read the sign at the entrance noting how they are current short staffed, but that doesn't excuse the behavior that we witnessed from the employee(s) working this particular evening. It also doesn't explain why it took nearly 45 minutes to cook two hamburgers when the dining room was only 1/4 full. The burgers were good, bordering average, but unfortunately nothing special considering how much our bill ending up being. Our waitress did a good job, no complaints there. We stopped at the bar on the way out for milkshakes. The woman who made them was clearly new but was as nice as could be. However her coworker working behind the bar with her was not. We felt awful watching her struggle to make two milkshakes with no help and a very unpleasant coworker barking orders at her like a dog. Finally, my main complaint about this evening's service is directed towards the horrible lady working the cash register. In retrospect, I can't understand why she was even working in this position because I have never in my life never seen someone who very clearly did not want to be doing what she was doing. She scoffed at us when we asked if this was where we are to pay and she threw up her hands and said "Well I guess you can" with a very obvious tone of annoyance in her voice. We even witnessed it for a second time, while we waited for our milkshakes to be made, towards the elderly lady behind us because she wasn't able to correctly enter her check into the computer. After about 5 minutes of trying and getting visibly upset, she finally started yelling at her coworker to come and help. Her and her family calmly tried to explain to her that two of them split an order but that did nothing to help the belligerent cashier. Finally before we left, we witnessed her seating a couple, when they asked for a specific table, she says, yet again in obvious annoyance, "Sure if that's where you want to sit." Such an unpleasant experience to have as a paying customer and this is the first and last interaction you get going in and out...
Read more5 Stars – Huggin’ Molly’s: Exactly What We Needed
Have you ever left a restaurant thinking, “Why can’t more places get it right like this?” That was exactly our reaction after visiting Huggin’ Molly’s.
From the moment we sat down, it felt like we were in for something better—and they delivered. The service was prompt, the food came out surprisingly fast, and everything was fresh, hot, and made with care. How often do you find a place where the food arrives quickly and still exceeds expectations?
We tried several things, and not one item missed the mark. The hamburgers were juicy, perfectly cooked, and loaded with fresh toppings—no skimping here. The fish was excellent, flaky and seasoned just right. The homemade chips? Crisp, flavorful, and clearly made in-house. Even the side veggies were cooked just enough to still keep their texture, which is a rare thing.
And then there’s the mint chocolate chip malt. Rich, creamy, and blended just right—it was enough to share between three people and still feel like we each got our fill. It wasn’t just dessert; it was the kind of ending that makes a great meal unforgettable.
Compared to the last place I reviewed, this wasn’t just a step up—it was a completely different league. It makes you wonder: Why doesn’t everyone operate like this? Why don’t more places take the time to make every detail matter?
If you’re on the fence or just passing through, don’t miss Huggin’ Molly’s. They’ve earned this 5-star review, and we’ll...
