Ate lunch here today. First visit. Cafeteria style. They had greens, fried okra, green peas, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, baked and fried chicken, meatloaf, lemon pound cake, rolls and fried cornbread. And of course, sweet tea! You pay after you eat. Such nice folks. And, the place isn't just Ruby's in name alone. Miss Ruby herself took our drink order. A lovely lady for sure. The food was southern goodness at it's best. And they give you generous portions. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault! Obviously this is not the place to come if you're on a diet. But if you're hankerin for some true soul food, this place is hard to beat!
Very small seating areas as it used to be a house. Matter of fact, there were NO empty seats, probably because the food is so doggone good. All of a sudden, this group of men, who were done eating, just stood up and cleaned off the end table for us without being asked to do so. Don't know who they were, but would just like to give a big shout out to their parents for raising real gentlemen! We give Ruby's 10 stars, highly recommend, and will be back. Come on in and let Miss Ruby and her crew fill your belly with some of the south's best vittles. You will be so...
Read moreRuby's is awesome! We drove up to Abbeville to eat at this little gem of a place. The ladies were sooooo sweet ❤️. The food was delicious (I got the fried pork chop, potato salad, black eyed peas and cornbread. The cornbread was the best I've had at a restaurant, the potato salad was great and tasted like mine 😊, the pork chop was perfect as were the peas. Oh yes, dessert was peach cobbler ❤️). The atmosphere reminded me of the old Garland house in Dothan in that it is in an old house. Super quaint, cute and super clean! We will definitely go back. One of the couples eating was from Florida and had driven by and stopped in. Very pleased. Lots of folks stopped in so very popular and I can see why! All...
Read moreThis place is awesome, never had a bad meal. We live in Panama City Fl but I grew up here in Abbeville. I always get about 3 to-go containers of her potato salad. That stuff is addictive. All of the people here are so nice. Ruby told me once that I needed to try her BBQ and said to call her when I was coming up from Panama City and she would just put some aside for me. How awesome is that! It is very very rare that you find places like this these days. The food and the atmosphere is one thing, but the people are what make it. You can tell a lot of love goes into what makes Ruby's work. Everyone there is family, and they all treat you...
