Since the take over of the Farm House by the new Owners, I have dined there 3 times. 1st time was very much like the original, food and servicer were great and worth it. 2nd time the food was not so great, service was great due to the waitress that had worked there for sometime from what I gathered. Then while we were waiting for out deserts to arrive, we were asked to settle the bill. I found this a little unsettling because if I had wanted coffee after my desert, there would have been a second charge I would have had to pay. The 3rd (and last time) we dined there, the meal was "Ok" the cheese bread seems soggy and old, my wife's salad seemed to be the bottom of the bowl as it contain mostly lettuce and not much else. After the conclusion of the meal, we ordered deserts. I ordered coconut cream pie and the wife ordered chocolate pie with whipped topping. My desert was good, hers was a total fail. It looked and tasted as it is had been on display for several day. The topping was dry and lacked any flavor. The waitress offered to remove it from the bill and I advised "that be a good thing as I am not paying for that" The worst part was while attempting to have my desert, I was ask to settle my bill. I was so put off by this, I walked away from my desert. The Farmhouse at one time, was a really enjoyable place to dine for us, it is no no better than a Fast Food dump and they have lost at least 2 patrons and I am sure other are as disappointed as we are. I do not recommend dinning here, they really need to go back to what works because what they are doing...
Read moreThe first time I ate at the historic Kirby house back in 2007, I believe I picked up a brochure, that, or it must've been Brookville! Any who, regardless of where it was, I remember seeing Mr. K's Farmhouse Restaurant advertise! And the first thing that drew my imagination of wanting to try this place, is the fact that it's an actual farmhouse. All I could picture was stepping back in time, and imagining this beautiful farmhouse in the outskirts of Abilene, surrounded by the Kansas land with real farm animals nearby as if the food was prepared on site, just like the old days of Kansas. Fast forward to a couple of years ago where my family and I had a gathering at the restaurant. It was my first time! I was amazed at the decor on the inside, and even the history that surrounds Mr. K's Farmhouse dating back to when they first opened. There's so much to learn from just by being there, and if you take a look at the walls, you may see some of the old menus. The food was great! Of course, homemade and made fresh! Do check out the place! it is another great local treasure of Abilene that hopefully will survive into the new and upcoming generations! Daily specials, and definitely check out the...
Read moreI would like to rate this restaurant higher, because I have been coming here for many years and have always had a good experience. Overall, the staffing seemed adequate and the service was acceptable. The location still has the same homey feel which offers something unique compared to a chain restaurant. However, on this visit the overall quality of the food left a little to be desired. I ordered the prime rib special cooked medium and was disappointed as the meat was overcooked and quite tough. It seemed as though it had been cooked previously and reheated in the microwave. My wife ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs. The meat was tender and well-flavored, but was almost cool and again had the feel of having been reheated not quite fully. We ordered a child's plate for our two small boys to share, and the size of the portion was much smaller than what I remember on my previous visits to Mr K's Farmhouse. The highlight of the meal was the cheesecake we ordered for dessert. It was...
