Summary: Excellent food in a beautiful setting with great service.

Greenway Tap is the new restaurant/ bar at The Preserve at Oak Meadows. Although The Preserve is dedicated to golf, they have created a beautiful restaurant and bar. The full menu is limited and served Wednesday through Sunday but there is something for everyone. I prefer restaurants that execute a handful of items very well as opposed to dozens of mediocre dishes. Greenway Tap gets high marks for execution.

We sat on the beautiful patio that overlooks the expansive golf course. It's peaceful and far from loud traffic. We started with the Mezze Platter ($11) which is a great appetizer filled with olives, roasted peppers, artichokes, cucumbers and other vegetables, pita triangles, hummus and tzatziki sauce. You get a lot to nibble on. It's plenty for 2-3 people to snack on but almost too much if you are going to order entrees.

Speaking of entrees, I ordered the grilled beef tenderloin. It comes with a spring green salad (partially eaten in photo) and the tenderloin is accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes, asparagus and green beans. It was cooked perfectly medium rare. ($26). I'm a fan of the tenderloin medallions trio at a famous restaurant that charges significantly more and your sides are ala carte. The beef tenderloin at Greenway is not only delicious and well prepared, it's probably the best value on the menu.

My dining partner ordered the burrito bowl ($12) and added a portobello mushroom to the mix. You have the option of adding chicken or grilled salmon as well. I had a small bite of the portobello and it was very good. She loved her meal and felt it was a nice healthy alternative. Greenway Tap has an extensive beer and wine list, much more than you would expect at a typical golf course restaurant. Many of the beers listed are from local craft brewers. Beverage prices are average.

Finally, our server Jamie was excellent. He was attentive and friendly without being overbearing.

The good:

The food was good, some of it was execllent. Their take on bussels sprouts was amazing. Pot roast nachos felt a little under filled, but still good. Tap Burger was good, but the roasted tomato on it was just mush.

Our server was very polite, attentive and made us feel welcome.

They had a nice hammock for a baby's car seat.

The not so good:

Sitting outside, our table was mostly in direct sun for 1.5 of our 2 hour stay. We tilted the umbrella, and when it moved becuase of wind, the manager came out and said we couldn't do that. Other shadier tables were unoccupied, butr we were told they were reserved already. We were given the option to move inside. One of the reserved tables had 3-4 people lounging for most of our meal until the rest of their party showed up.

Bar had really good cocktails, but couldn't make a mojito.

Vegan cheesecake had a layer of actual cake? Why?

Menu had a gluten free tag, but it was used nowhere on the menu.

Wasn't offered water, though we didn't ask.

Will probably go back, but will dine inside if we're there before 6:30. The umbrellas were next to useless without...

Beautiful modern new building right off Oak Meadows Golf Course. They offer tasty cocktails, bottled beer and craft beer on tap from breweries within DuPage County. The views are beautiful, the building is clean and well designed. We started off with the cheese curds which were good and a few of us had the broccoli salad thst came with our entrees which was super fresh and really good. They have affordable kid options. My son had the chicken nuggets and fries. My wife enjoyed her burger and my daughter had the grilled skirt steak (chimichurri) and it tasted delicious. I had the grilled beef tenderloin which was juicy, fresh and cooked to medium rare perfection. The fresh winter veggie medley with the steak included roasted sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, onion, asparagus and brussel sprouts. The thin sliced stacked potatoes were great too. The service was fast, friendly and on point. I really can’t say anything bad about our first visit and our family will definitely be...

We chose this restaurant because it had a big outdoor patio area and that area is dog friendly. They don't offer a variety of dishes to choose from, so we got the basics (quesadilla, chicago style poutine, steak, and cajun pasta). They serve local beer which I liked. We were surprised at the quality (and also quantity) of the food and how good everything was. Service was bit slow so we didn't really mind. My parents enjoyed watching ppl golf while waiting.
